Most of the players in the NBA are fairly easily replaceable and not all that big of a draw for fans.
A lot of players are done for the year and don't have anything signed for next year, and there are tons of up and coming players in the system with no job security at all.
The fact that they have to negotiate contracts is exactly part of the point. It draws into question the ablity of the organization to act fairly towards these players if the owner has such a negative view of black people.
You also have to understand how much power the organization holds over the player once they are drafter by them or under contract.
