Capitalism may have made some rich here, but it comes at the expense of billions of poor in third world countries. Just look at central America where once sustainable farmers made a living, they have been bankrupted by American owned United Fruit Co. Where once there was a diversity of crops, now there are mono crops and those former farmers are destitute. It is the same all over the world.

And when the poor of the world wish to progress out of poverty, what do they do?

They adopt market economies.....

...Speaking only for myself - lots. What exactly was his involvement in this alleged killing and wounding? Who else was involved? Who trained him? Was the purpose of the mission adequately explained to him? Did he feel a threat to personal safety? And about 100 other questions depending on his answers to the above.

I think you may be right. Omar should have been tortured/questioned and then executed. Thanks for the insight.

Omar Khadr's release criticized by U.S. soldier Layne Morris

A retired American soldier who was blinded in one eye during a firefight in Afghanistan has criticized a Canadian judge's decision to allow the release of a former Guantanamo Bay inmate who was convicted in the attack.

Toronto-born Omar Khadr was convicted of war crimes, including throwing a grenade when he was 15 years old that killed U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Christopher Speer in Afghanistan during a 2002 firefight.

Layne Morris of Utah, who lost sight in one eye from shrapnel during the skirmish, said Khadr's release Thursday was worrisome.

"This is a man who has demonstrated a willingness and a capability to do great harm to Canadian society and Western interests in general," he told the Deseret News newspaper in Salt Lake City.

Last year, Morris and Speer's widow filed a $44.7 million US wrongful death and injury lawsuit against Khadr in U.S. District Court in Utah.

Khadr, son of an alleged senior al-Qaeda financier, said he categorically rejects violent jihad and wants a fresh start. He plans to finish his education and work in health care.

"I'm sorry for the pain I've caused for the families of the victims," he told reporters after his release on bail. "There's nothing I can do about the past but I can do something about the future."

Khadr spent 10 years in the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Since 2012, he had been held in Canada, serving out an eight-year sentence handed down by a U.S. military commission in 2010. He was once the youngest detainee at Guantanamo, arriving there at age 15. He is now 28.

Court of Appeal Justice Myra Bielby rejected the Canadian government's emergency request to stop Khadr's release while he appeals his U.S. war crimes conviction. A lower court judge granted him bail last month.

The U.S. State Department supports the Canadian government's decision to appeal the bail decision.

Murica doesn't get into conflicts unless its in their own interests to do so. Their interests being securing the status quo for their rich owners.

They ruling class which owns Murica was afraid of communism because the rich pigs would have been lynched in the streets had communism take hold. So this led to an illegal invasion of Vietnam to shut down the voice of the working classes, the common man.
Have you ever met any Vietnamese people ? Do you think America was fighting alone in Vietnam ?

LOL

Capitalism has made more people rich and free than any other economic system.

Communism has made more people poor, miserable, oppressed and dead than any other system.
Of course misery loves company look at Cliff .

And how many Afghan civilians did this ex soldier or his unit kill while on duty in Afghanistan? He has an ax to grind, that is all.
Enlighten us o wise one, how many civilians of the ilk of bomb making Omar did his unit kill ?

Go bleed, I just said he's just out on bail. Period. Nothing more.

He's not 100% free, he can now prove to people that he is a changed man. I hope no innocent Canadians become victims to further crimes committed by Khadr. Period.

Hey boot licker, at least that invading war criminal special forces killer won't be toasting any mothers and children in thier homes again.

Omar should never have been imprisoned. Summary execution was the appropriate remedy.

Agreed.

I can assure you, that the next time Canada asks for a prisoner back from the USA, people will remember Omar - and Canada will get refused.

No he didn't watch. Let's get our facts straight. In fact, he saved a hell of a lot of people. You want to blame someone for Rwanda you can blame the UN for ignoring repeated requests by Dallaire and you can blame the Clinton Administration for refusing to use the word "Genocide" to avoid becoming involved in the run up to that massacre.

Actually we can blame Uncle Sam who organized every detail of the coup including handpicking and training the new flunky Rawandan Prezident in the USofA.

Well you're entitled to your opinion... ;)

As Margaret Thatcher put it, "A terrorist is a terrorist is a terrorist."

It is the government's DUTY to keep this smug specimen locked away from the general public!

He still has to go to court to face the charges on killing a US Soldier.. he will have his day in court, and I hope they fry him.

Wow, 417 likes.

The Supreme Court of Canada dealt a blow to the federal government Thursday in a case involving Omar Khadr, the former teenage al-Qaeda member freed on bail last week in Alberta. It said Mr. Khadr should be treated as if he were sentenced as a juvenile. The federal government had argued that he deserved to be treated more severely, as an adult.

The ruling is unusual in that it was delivered from the bench shortly after the court heard arguments from the federal government and Mr. Khadr’s lawyers. Usually, the court considers its rulings for several weeks before releasing a decision. The promptness suggests that the court found the legal principles too obvious to require any more time to think about.

The Canadian government had argued that the eight-year sentence should be treated as five separate eight-year sentences on various charges, all of them running concurrently.

The ruling is another major defeat for the federal government involving Mr. Khadr.
