The popular vote shouldn't count? Isn't that contrary to a basic principle of democracy?

Every case is possibly a little different. Are actual numbers more important than distribution?

Yeah, to bad it didn't count in the USA, Trump wouldn't be President.. instead the Electoral College kept the Good'ol Boy Establishment in charge.

It makes me shudder to think of the alternative! :)

I think that argument was used in England by those opposed to electoral reform. But what they were concerned about was keeping the vote distributed among themselves.

Wouldn't the popular vote favour the interest of the Urban population and misrepresent the concerns of the country as a whole.

That is what tends to happen. Citiots tend to be out of tough with reality. To be fair the vote would have to be weighted to take into consideration the size of the area represented and the number of communities in that area.

Where and how numbers are placed will give you enlightenment of the process itself
Of course there is your receiving audience of the numbers
Then there is the manipulation of numbers, sometimes this irks me,how one pays attention to numbers is important
Yes numbers, very popular in politics and certain times of politics

Celebrity businessman Kevin O'Leary dropped out of the Conservative leadership race and pledged to back Quebec MP Maxime Bernier's campaign all the way to decision day, but the duo are also working on a plan for afterwards.

Bernier says that if he wins, he expects to continue having O'Leary as part of his inner political circle for the next two years and then perhaps persuade him to run for a seat in the House of Commons.

There are fewer than 10 days left before the new leader of the party is declared and voting is underway, with close to 260,000 members eligible to cast a ballot.
