Sorry to break it to you VanIsle, but buying lottery tickets is an admission of poverty.
We're hardly in the poverty lineups but we buy $10 worth per week. So far it's turned out to be our only bad investment besides investing in oil.

This thread was about Karma. I have not read the posts but - I do believe in the "what goes around comes around" concept. I had a customer one day who told me I had missed scannning an item that cost $7.00. The computers were set up in such a way that it was easy to miss scanning the first item and not notice because the usual "beep" would sound. I thanked her for telling me to which she replied "I believe in Karma". I guess we can break that down to a "do unto others" kind of thing. I have had a number of people tell me the same thing (not for the same reason) since that time.

but didn't she refuse the gift, you were clearly meant to play a part in karmic reward and you may have ruined the gesture thereby tainting your own flow so to speak. I think to be safe that you should pass the next seven dollar item along sans cost. Just to be safe you know.

Man do I agree with this..

And the source of "what comes around" is not alway from "what goes around" either.. Meaning you need not get back what you did from the same person ( good or bad ) what you deserve..

Yes, we all have those altruistic views of what we would do, but history shows that people who win a vast amount of money suddenly become someone else.
No doubt. I don't think all people change by themselves. I think others who may also be in control of the winnings, force changes on the actual winner. For example, I win 25 million on the lotto. I have my plans all set and I'm good to go. My spouse, who is entitled to half my winnings, has other ideas (remember this is a scenerio) so we suddenly become idiots, running around playing big wheel. Kids can change your well laid plans as well. They can pressure you into things you didn't plan on. I was raised with such a sense of honesty and reminded constantly that I was no less and no better than anyone else. I was raised without money. I truly feel I could remain pretty true to who I am. I live in a nice home. It's not a palace. It's not even new. I've even thought about what I would do regarding my home if I won the lottery. I've already dedided that I would not leave. My home is 14 years old so the kitchen cupboards could use an update but - without the lottery, they are still just fine. Beyond that, I would install a heat pump and I would consider re-painting the inside. I guess I would carpet the rec room and put a fireplace in there too. For furniture - I don't need a new sofa but I would buy one. That's it. Those are the only big purchases I need in my life. I've moved so often I never want to move again. I never want to learn where the light switches are in a new house again. I'm not big on travel - I'm quite a home body so I'm sure we would go on a couple of trips but they would be trips of personal interest, no just "lay on the beach" trips. My husband's family is very small. I think I can stay true to what I first said I would like to do. Maybe not to the last dollar but certainly close. I'm old enough to know that just because I can (if I won) afford to own a gorgeous home, a beautiful car etc. etc., I just don't need it and would take no joy in having something I could not give to the rest of my family and I would take no joy in me having all that while I look at pictures of a starving child or family. Maybe we woud travel to the Halcion Hot Springs and we would meet you.
