I care about what they think because those socially-conservative attitudes are still anchoring the rest of Canadian society, and they are the driving oppositional force against some of the progressive changes that still need to be made. These socially-conservative attitudes, as seen right here in this forum, promote the kind of hyper-masculinity that teaches today's youth, too, that you shouldn't sympathize for or be compassionate toward queer people — because if you feel compassionate for a queer person, you might be queer, yourself! (And that'd be bad, mmmkay?)
Hyper-masculinity... I don't know, I'd say that attitude is also in parts of the GLBTQ community as well in some respects as well as violence.
