Electing an MP is supposed to give a voice to the voters, not to the MP's Their votes are NOT supposed to be on the MP's religious beliefs, in fact it is not even supposed to be on their personal beliefs. They were elected to be the voters' voice. As far as abortion goes, it seems to me most people feel it should be left to the person who is undergoing the procedure and her doctor.

.

Actually, the majority of Canadian voters want some control over late term abortion.

In fact, more women want an anti-abortion law than do men.

Below in this thread I quoted poll after poll after poll that demonstrates the truth of what I say above.

So, if MPs are to vote the wishes of the voters and ignore their own conscience, then we would have an abortion law.

BTW, you are wrong in that contention in the first place. An MP is supposed to vote his party's platform first (as he ran and was elected on those promises), and then his conscience.

Sorry luv, but you are out of date. The National Post, in their survey in July 2014 found that the majority of adults in Canada favour abortion. Did you realize that over the years since the beginnings of discussion of abortion, those in favour has been growing every year. It is also noteworthy that we as a nation have become much less religious and more spiritual over those same years.

The survey shows the majority of adult Canadians polled (59%) say they are "fine" with no law restricting abortion.
Now as to "voting first the party line, and then his conscience." That's great considering since the Liberal Party I suspect knows how the nearly 60% of Canadian adults feel there should be not problem. IF they elect to go with conscience, and it is not how the voters wish, I suspect they will not last long.

LOL. It is different answers because the questions were different. I was looking at who was most against abortion. Since my women friends all want the freedom to choose. . The National Post says 59% of all adults are in favour, 39% are against 3 trimester and 10% against abortion completely.

The poll you chose is reopening the discussion. Very different. from most women being against it. Right now I wouldn't want the law changed or reopened either.

Abortion in Canada is not limited by criminal law but by the Canada Health Act.[1] While some non-legal obstacles exist, Canada is one of only a few nations with no legal restrictions on abortion.

Why fool around with a reasonable system.

Ummm, I just gave a link to the poll you're talking about from the National Post. It was Angus Reid that conducted the poll.

When I said poll fight it was a joke, Colpy posted some polls, you posted a poll...poll fight. Though yours is more current, but the questions asked across all of those polls are not the same.
