Pee test is easy enough to beat. If management is serious - and it's NOT a democracy - they can require a blood test. There's no way to beat it and TCH stays in the blood for up to 48 days.

Woof!
It's actually in your fat and the only way to beat it is a condom of clean pee that has to be at body temp. to pass the first test,if you fail then you go to the hospital for a more extensive test.
Some people can pass after only a few days of not smoking depending on their metabolism, some take months.

I'll be going for mine tomorrow.
I really dont like the fact that you are punished for what you do on your days off as alcohol and other drugs dont show up after a short period and pot stays with you a long time even if you had a puff weeks ago.

Best to just give it up anyways, thats ****e will take any motivation you have and kill it eventually.

Hey all.

I have experience in office work and havent been lucky getting work here in toronto. I was wondering how to go about it in Fortmacmurray. I have no family living with me so this kind of frees me. I am also not selective and can do any type of work. I have a drivers licence though from another country but I am willing to get a canadian one. I have sent out alot of resumes to different oil companies and havent had any luck so far. I welcome anyone with any information on how I can go about getting employment in the oilsands to drop me a line on my email. catiemak@ymail.com. I am willing to take any type of work. Thank you.

Hello everyone. First of all let me say that am from NB and first came up here in Aug. 2008 for a camp job with fly in/fly out to Moncton NB for 8 days after spending 20 days at work. Camp life is what you make of it. Yes, sometimes it feels like you are in prison, due to the small 8 x 10 room. But at least it is a room. They have a bar, weight and exercise room, Tim Horton's (figured you would like that);-) and game room with pool &fooseball. You will end up making friends at work, if you are not an a-hole. It is hard work and very hard on the moral working and waiting to go home to your family. I got laid off after 6 months and loved every minute. The money was great and yes, you don't have to spend it here. Best way is to have a goal back home. Now, I have been at the same site as in 2008 since Oct. of last year on a 7 on/7 off schedule. 20 and 8 is very rare if not non-existant these days. But rumor has it that the boom is coming back very soon. The key up here is to make as many friends and contacts as possible. Gather as many company names as possible and any help from anyone willing to help. I am one of those guys. I like to help. Feel free to ask me anything, within reason;-), and I will do my best to help in any way I can. But I don't think this is the place for it. Go to www.indeed.ca and do searches for camp jobs in Fort McMurray. Also, be specific. Kearl Lake is a new project starting up. Use specific trades in your search, i.e. millwright, pipefitter, labour, carpenter, camp attendant.

Good luck

I hear ya,im trying to get on at cnrl or kearl for 7 on and 7 off and they fly you to Calgary as they have an airstrip right in camp that a 727 can land at.Right now im renting a room in Eagle ridge in town and it's not bad as im only 20 minutes from work but the traffic is absolutely nuts!!!!!!
I want a 7 on and 7 off as i'm currently on an 18 on and 9 off and it's a little hard on a guy doing that many days now,I used to do 49 on and 14 off at one time in the arctic....must be getting old.

Half of the 9 guys in the house I live in are at cnrl.I was trying with one of the construction outfits there for an equipment operator, actually it was a grader but I can run any mining equipment they have but an electric blast drill.I prefer cat or grader.
I'm running a komatsu 375 on the tailings reduction operation at suncor right now but it might shut down for freeze up soon.

When you live in the camp where do you do your laundry or do you pay them to do it for you? What hours would you work if you were a supervisor at a camp? Do you have to pay for your room when working for a camp or pay for the room on your days off--- What is the average length of a shift if you are on a 20 days on and 8 days off schedule--- Do you get paid overtime as a supervisor--- Are there any stores to buy things at the camp ie deodorant, toothpaste, magazines etc---- Do you always share washrooms with others - if so how many--- Are there any planned activities to do for fun --- Can you bring a car and park it to get around outside of work-

Sorry for all the questions - just trying to get a better idea of what camp living would be like

I was hoping you might be able to tell me where to look for any entry level position on camp, I reside in Ontario and am looking for a rotation such as 28 on 10 off or 14 on 7 off. I have looked in so many places and applied my email to many companies with no avail, any ideas what I should do now?
I do have a lot of certifications including H2S alive, I just need a starting point, at this point I am willing to start anywhere to get my foot in the door.

Thanks
