I love this today Good Friday the Conservatives launch attack ads against the NDP.
Social Conservatives on the Holiest of Days, bearing false witness against their
neighbours. Layton is scaring the old line parties so bad they are using fear and
threats to persuade people to vote against the NDP. When you are under attack
you are a threat to others. More and more I hear people changing their vote.
I have spoken to all kinds of folks who say why not, for over a hundred years the
people of Canada have voted one of two parties and nothing has come of it.
I hope Layton is a Tommy Douglas style New Democrat. Tommy built Saskatchewan
into a modern Province, Roads, electric power, and modern government, without
going into debt, Romanow is another one who took over the Conservative debts of
Grant Divine and restored Saskatchewan's good name. Maybe Layton could bring
some balanced budgets to Ottawa. Do you smell change in the air? At least an
increased number of NDP. May change can happen.

It makes no sense for the cons to attack the NDP....they won't lose votes becasue of them....well maybe in BC where up is down and down is up.

If the Liberals and NDP were smart, they'd trade off ridings. Drop NDP candidate in ridings like mine in exchange for dropping the Liberal candidate in a riding where the NDP might beat the Conservatives.

And that would do wonders for their credibility, wouldn't it. :p

Why would the NDP make a deal with the Liberals about dropping candidates? The NDP is about
to deal a death blow to the Liberals and Iggy and Jack don't like each other not for a minute.
The Tories are attacking New Democrats because the NDP is winning the riding's the Tories need
to gain a majority. Across this country in Ontario, and Saskatchewan and BC the fight is a two
way affair with the Liberals trailing. Eastern Maritimes is still up for grabs and the Liberals will hang
onto some of their power base. Quebec is a two way fight for the Bloc and NDP with the Tories
praying they can still make a showing. Layton has caught fire, the electorate is both angry and
looking for something different. We have a free for all this time out and only God knows how this will
end. I am not predicting a trend, but if the numbers are still the same Wednesday night or Thursday
noon. it will be a trend. The second best outcome is the NDP turning the Liberal party into a
rump or shambles. Some of the pollsters are starting to see a trend, the Liberals are falling the Bloc
is falling the Tories are losing a tiny bit of ground and the NDP is surging forward, they are slightly
ahead of the Liberals but the Libs could be ready to implode, we will see by mid week

If the Liberals implode, then maybe they can truly claim that they are reformed when they make a comeback in future years. I think their refusal to reform or even look like they have reformed has stopped them from regaining their voters back.

I voted Liberal yesterday, but donated money to the NDP and Green Party.

As cranky noted our electoral system is screwed up. My vote is an attempt to correct the problem, which would be solved by a preferential or instant run-off voting.

Instant-runoff voting - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Green party would have been my first preference, followed by the NDP and finally the Liberals. Since the Greens and NDP don't have a chance, I'm actually voting for my third choice, so my vote would make a difference in my riding.

Since the political parties get federal money based on their last election result, I'm donating to the NDP and Green in compensation for not voting for them.

And that would do wonders for their credibility, wouldn't it. :p

I'm sure propaganda could twist perceptions that way. But I would have more respect for parties that did that, because it shows they are able to come up with creative solutions to problems and cooperate. Characteristics I wish our leaders had in abundance...

I'm willing to bet that the use of the term 'ad hominem' has increased to something in the order of 1,000,000 times what it was before internet forums.

True. It depends on the context of the thread and the people participating in it.

If we're to try and follow a serious path of debate or argumentation, then you want to try and reduce the fallacies.

Sometimes you can afford an insult, joke or troll here and there.

It really depends how much douchebaggery is tolerated.

I doubt CB is capable of debating an idea, which is why in general I try to ignore his distractions. For example his last post doesn't have anything to do with my opinion, but is an off topic attempt to descredit me personally, not my ideas or opinions.

CB isn't the only offender, but he is probably the worst one who posts on this forum regularly. I've lost count of how many debates CB hijacked with personal insults until the thread becomes a series of competing insults and the moderators close the thread or move it to WB.

That's about the stupidest statement on here this morning- for all his "rough edges", he can out debate about 90% of the people on here.

Right up to the point, the opposition fails to concede to fact. Then I go for a swim in the mud. I'm not fussy.
