Have to disagree slightly here, if a guy comes at you with a knife or a length of pipe or baseball bat I think you would be wise to accept the fact he is prepared to kill and you should use every bit of force you have.
I'll let my wife take care of it. She worked in the fed penn in P.A. for 2 1/2 years and the last 15 in the loonie bin. She'll have you spitting your teeth out before you can say "give me your.....".

For Xanax, I'll assume you're talking about the drug. What does Xanax have to do with where criminals are located?

No there are criminals even if they're not in my eyesight. What's your point?
Yeah Xanax. It will really help you with the boogieman/paranoia complex. Turn off the TV, go shovel the walk and say hi to the neighbours.

Outside of self-defense or defense of loved ones or somthing like that, I can't see any reason justifying killing. If someone is immensely nasty like Olson, Pickton, etc. I'd much prefer to see them suffer in misery as long as possible. For instance, no human contact at all where they are in solitary, their food and water is pushed through a slit in a door, lighting is dim, clothing is sparse but enough to keep from going hypothermic, food is bland, etc.

You don't have to kill someone in the act of self defending yourself.

Huh?????

That is a rather all-encompassing statement.....and often incorrect.

If we are truely justified in defending ourselves, the survival of our opponent is entirely secondary in our considerations, if it registers at all......

You have to aim your gun carefully to avoid hitting any major organs or arteries while the would-be killer is blasting away at you without the slightest regard for where his/her bullets hit you. It might not be entirely fair, but it would be the politically-correct way to defend yourself. Yup, sure...If I'm ever in that situation, I'll be sure to remember all that.

Appropriate force is definitely a consideration.
When I was a quenchwench in a pub in Kloneville, one guy that had a few beers decided he liked my parts and one or two fingers became a bit too inquisitive. Aikikai kicked in and the guy did a summersault and landed on his back with my foot on his chest and his right thumb bent at an awkward angle in my hand. I could have broken it, but that would have been a little extreme, considering the occasion.

Shotgun blast (with large gauge shot) in the general direction of the nasty is enough for me.

Well I am sure you would have both your guns a blazing...

All of that 'self defense' talk brings up a point: talking about defending yourself does not necessarily include defending your possessions.

Well, I have a couple of "possessions" that come to mind, but they're an integral part of my body and I'd hate to have them shot off by a bad guy. :-|

lol I think the sound of a 12 ga. shell being slid into the chamber of a shotgun is enough to give most nasties a severe case of the scoots.

That's it! I remember now! That's how to defend yourself!

NOT!

And the best part of all...they can't pull their puds and get off anymore.

Naw, trying to fire two weapons at once simply means you don't use either to their potential.....it is better to fire once and hit than to fire 30 times.....and miss. You watch too many movies.
