What you don't seem to be getting is that AK-47 type, AR-15 ... and others, like the old FNs that I used to shoot ... are specifically designed to kill humans with the greatest efficiency. The designers did not have deer in mind. They are made to kill in as short a period as is necessary. TV sets, electric guitars and most paintings were neither designed for nor meant to kill people. Neither were steak knives and even if they are potentislly dangerous, they cannot cause mass death in minutes.

Explain please, how in Canada the semi-auto FN FAL (I own one, prohibited: grandfathered, I'm not allowed to take it out of the house)

is significantly different from the Remington 742? (I own one, not restricted)

They fire the same cartridge (7.62 NATO/.308 Winchester) in exactly the same fashion. they are fed from detachable magazines legally restricted to 5 rounds, but 10 and 20 round mags exist for both.......

This demonstrates clearly the stupidity of banning guns on the basis of appearance.

The FAL looks all scary. The Remington is reassuring because it looks kinda like a cowboy gun.

That's not sarcastic. It really is the basis of the anti-"assault weapon" crowd's alleged thinking. Ignorance and feels.

I agree.

As a hunter, I can confirm that it does not matter which rifle is used to shoot a 180grain bullet at an elk.

If the anti-"assault weapon" crowd is claiming there is a difference which one is used by a crazy person on a shooting spree, they clearly have not been engaging in critical thinking.

The Remington 742 was designed by pencils to kill pencils. While the pencil sharpener was designed by humans to sharpen pencils, which pencils sorely need as they are so dull. Both should be banned.

fun prog-fact: the dem-green loons in richmond california (I know, richmond where?) banned space-based weapons, so we've got that going for us which is nice.

My .308 semi automatic rifle (aka a civilian version of the FN) is a wonderful deer, elk, and moose hunting weapon. If it was made specifically for killing people then someone should tell the leftard activists that the features work extremely well for hunting, too.

Gun powder was originally invented as an elixir of eternal life by the Chinese. So you have no right to cast disparaging remarks about it.

Also, warfarin was designed to kill, so you have no right to praise it's ability to prevent heart attacks and strokes.

It (the FN) was specifically designed for killing people. Politics and prejudices had nothing to do with it. That is why it was created.

How nany rounds does it take you to fell a deer, hotshot? Five?

p.s. If you have ever been close to anyone on Warfarin, you would know that it is very dangerous and that it has to be monitored and watched like a hawk. There is nothing safe about it and there is a fine balance to be maintained between its helping you and harming you.

... but you know it all, I'm sure, and if you don't agree with someone, you pull out an idiotic Yankism like "Libtard", What? ...no meme?

Try finishing high school, Bondo.

I agree.

If you have to squeeze off round after round, you are an incompetent assh0le, Nimrod.

Shoot to wound, it takes four of the others to carry the targeted away.

That seems to be the philosophy about "sport" hunting with semi-automatics. We have a Cree kid from James Bay working in our shop and I've talked to him about hunting from time to time. He hunts Caribou with a .22 ... a single shot .22. The big difference is that he was taught how to hunt by real hunters, not by midnight cowboys and he knows exactly what he's doing. He's too polite to say it, so I will instead ... big, fat, noisy, sloppy, stupid, lazy, unskilled White hunters ...

I learned how to shoot with a single shot Cooey .22 when I was twelve ... on a controlled range taught by a retired Van Doos Kapyong veteran Captain.I'm sure that he stripped Bren guns in his dreams but the Cooey wss good enough for us.

Hereabouts, we call our state's "assault weapon" ban the "ugly gun law."

Well, it ain't like you can wait for all the gays to line up.

You're getting the same number of mass killings using old "John Wayne" Winchester 35s, then?
They did Wounded Knee with Hotchkiss guns and Sharps rifles. Bag was 340.

Timothy McVeigh didn't use a gun at all. He got 170.

You can get 33-round mags for Glocks.

And as Colpy pointed out, any rifle, even good old normal hunting rifles, that are clip-fed can take any size of clip.

That should be the cut-off, then ... mukti-round magazines.

Just for the record, what do you hope to accomplish, and what can you reasonably expect to accomplish?

Stop morons from shooting dozens people every weekend. Yes, mass shootings ARE that frequent ... around one a day for three or more victims.

These guys are morons and crazies. They aren't dumb and stupid and in many cases they have no prior criminal record. I think the real issue is identifying them and Taking action. Having a list of guns they can have and others they can't have doesn't seem like a good approach.
do you agree?

So what are you trying to accomplish by enabling them? You really need wannabee weapons like AR-25 look-alikes to hunt deer? No other choices? What did they do before the automatics? How did they cope? How could they hunted without squeezing off multiple rounds?

Sorry to say it but the wants of hobbiests like you do not justify us having these weapons in the open market. It's not worth the risk to the rest of us. If you just have to handle weapons like these, join the Army. They've got good ones.

Got that here in Maryland. No clip holding more'n 10 rounds can be bought or sold in Maryland.

Which means I have to drive sixteen whole miles (!) to buy 30-round clips in Virginia.

Well done, Curious and Maryland. You sure did stop me from shooting up a gay bar.

The Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States has exactly NOTHING to do with hunting.
