'ARE YOU BRAIN DEAD?' Turkey's Erdogan asks Macron before NATO summit

ISTANBUL/PARIS — Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday that Emmanuel Macron’s warning that NATO was dying reflects a “sick and shallow” understanding, telling the French president “you should check whether you are brain dead.”
The comments drew a swift rebuke from the French foreign ministry, which summoned Turkey’s ambassador to Paris to protest over what a French presidential adviser called “insults.”
Erdogan was speaking days ahead of a summit of the military alliance, which Macron has said is experiencing “brain death” because of U.S. unpredictability under President Donald Trump and strained ties with Turkey.
The Turkish and French presidents, who have traded criticism over Ankara’s cross-border offensive in northeast Syria, will be among NATO leaders meeting at a summit of the transatlantic alliance in Britain on Dec. 4.
“I’m addressing Mr Macron from Turkey and I will say it at NATO: You should check whether you are brain dead first,” Erdogan said.
Story continues below
Macron said in an interview three weeks ago there was a lack of strategic coordination between European allies on the one hand and the United States and Turkey, on the other. He has also decried NATO’s inability to react to what he called Turkey’s “crazy” offensive into northern Syria.
On Friday, French officials said they expected substantial clarifications from Erdogan rather than a war of words.
“Let’s be clear, these are not statements, they are insults,” a presidential adviser said. “The president says things clearly. It’s up to Turkey to provide the answers that we and many allies expect.”
Macron’s adviser said that beyond the issue of Turkey’s offensive in Syria, its refusal to back a NATO defense plan for the Baltic republics and Poland was unacceptable.
“Turkey can’t take the defense plans of Poland and the Baltic countries hostage,” the adviser said.
Turkey is refusing to back a NATO defense plan for the three Baltic states and Poland unless it secures more political support from its allies for its fight against Kurdish YPG militia in northern Syria.
Ankara views the YPG as terrorists with links to militant Kurdish separatists in southeast Turkey.
Macron’s remarks on NATO drew strong reaction from France’s neighbours who say Europe still has to rely heavily on the U.S.-led alliance for its defense. Macron said on Thursday his remarks had been a useful wake-up call and that he would not apologize for saying them.

There is no oranization in the world that has helped to consolidate American power. reach, influence in the world and the Pax American generally than NATO.

Trump is an idiot. His trained GOP seals are idiots. His hillbilly powerbase constitutes the USA's congenital idiots.

There are fewer things that Trump could choose to make America weaker, lesser faster than blowing up NATO.

You are hearing the Russian play book loud and clear.

Trump is on their side, not America's. Those Oligarchs that hold the mortgage on his very exsistence must have him by the balls in some serious way.

Macron would like to allow Russia into NATO.
..................
"Acknowledging concerns in eastern Europe about his overtures to Russia, Macron said France would be “uncompromising” in defending European allies’ sovereignty if they were attacked, thanks to troops in the Baltics.
“But has the absence of dialogue with Russia made the European continent any safer? ... I don’t think so,” he added.
On Thursday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Macron had replied to a moratorium proposal from President Vladimir Putin. NATO has called the proposal not “credible” and said Moscow has already deployed illegal missiles, something Russia denies.
“Of course, (Macron’s) answer is not detailed. But at least, it expressed an understanding of (Russia’s) concern and a readiness for dialogue on this score,” Peskov was quoted by Interfax news agency as saying.
The spokesman said Macron and Putin would discuss the proposal in Paris on Dec. 9, TASS news agency reported."

In pictures: Nato reception at No 10

Boris Johnson has been hosting other Nato leaders in Downing Street.

As usual at these high-level occasions, there's been plenty of smiles, bonhomie and the obligatory family photos. Here's a selection.

Trump has endorsed Boris Johnson after saying he would keep out of it.
Britons are repulsed.
Oh, Jeremy Corbyn!
Hope the Brits are smart enough to make these Trump comments irrelevant. He does NOT vote in the UK. Loud mouth should learn when to keep his big mouth shut. He just keeps embarrassing himself.........and is not even aware of it.or does not care.

and as usual has to butt in.......where notwanted.

US President Donald Trump has said he could "work with anybody" in No 10 - nine days ahead of a general election.

Speaking on a three-day visit to the UK, Mr Trump said he would "stay out of the election", that he was a "fan of Brexit" and he thought PM Boris Johnson was "very capable".

Mr Trump is in the UK for a Nato summit being held in Watford on Wednesday.

He attended a reception hosted by the Queen at Buckingham Palace and later went to an event at Downing Street.

The US president's comments in a press conference came moments after he told reporters that he was staying out of the election on 12 December "because I don't want to complicate it".

What else has Trump said?

Contrary to Corbyn's claims, the US wanted "absolutely nothing to do with" the NHS, when asked if it would form any part of future trade talks. He said he wouldn't touch it even if it was handed to his administration "on a silver platter", adding: "Never even thought about it, honestly"

He himself was "a very easy person to work with"

The passersby who tackled a man during a "terrible attack" on London Bridge on Friday did "an amazing job". He said: "I was very proud of those people who grabbed him", referring to Usman Khan who killed two people and injured three others before armed police shot him dead

French President Emmanuel Macron was "very disrespectful" for suggesting Nato was "brain dead"

On Prince Andrew stepping down from royal duties, he said: "I don't know Prince Andrew, but that's a tough story, it's a very tough story." The Duke of York has been facing questions over his ties to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein. Mr Trump met the duke on his last visit to the UK in June

Who is Trump meeting?
President Trump is visiting the UK to attend a Nato summit commemorating the 70th anniversary of the transatlantic organisation.

He had a breakfast meeting with Nato Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at the US ambassador's residence in London.

Mr Trump held separate talks with French President Emmanuel Macron.

Later, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall were kept waiting for around 40 minutes before the US president and First Lady Melania Trump arrived at the prince's residence, Clarence House, for afternoon tea.

Mr Trump and his wife went on to join other Nato leaders and senior royals at a Buckingham Palace reception, hosted by the Queen.

The first couple later attended a reception at Downing Street with other world leaders.
It is unclear whether Mr Trump will hold a one-on-one meeting with Mr Johnson during his visit to the UK.

The US president said he would be meeting the British prime minister during his visit, adding: "I have meetings set up with lots of different countries".

Mr Johnson said he would be discussing Syria, Russia and China during discussions with Nato leaders.

Boris doesn't dare have his picture taken with Trump lest his election chances crash.

There'll be an almighty shuddering sigh of relief reverberating around the walls of Downing Street. Because there was real apprehension in No 10 about exactly what the president might say. In fact, he's given Boris Johnson an almighty helping hand in this election.

Most importantly, we heard Donald Trump seeking to counter what has become one of the main attack lines of the Labour Party and Jeremy Corbyn during this campaign, that if you re-elect Boris Johnson he will ensure that the NHS is on the table in trade talks with the US.

And yet we heard Mr Trump being pretty unequivocal that he's not interested in the NHS, even if it was presented to him on a silver platter and also suggesting he didn't know why it was being raised as an issue, even though, in fact, it was Mr Trump who first raised it as an issue when he was here in June at a news conference saying everything should be on the table.

Be that as it may, I think Team Johnson will be mightily relieved that he has, as it were, provided them with a get-out-of-jail-free card to Labour claims that the NHS would be on the table.
