Is it time for a CHL?

Hither and yon
The the Obama administration in its never ending quest to promote a trade war with Canada has now shut down Air Canada's ability to fly charter planes carrying Canadian hockey teams into the United States.
It turns out that they have just closed an exemption for sports teams to fly on a non-American owned charter with more than one stop in the USA.
So of course Canada is threating to do the same thing to them.

Two points.

Number one: We should wait until two days before the start of the winter Olympics in Vancouver.
And then shout down all American flights landing in Canada containing sports teams or olympic athletes.
Wouldn't that be a hoot?

Number two: We need to get out of the NHL anyway.
The owners are greedy.
The players are overpaid.
The NHL itself is historically run by weasels.
What normal family guy can afford to take his kids to game these days?
And the price of a season ticket?
For a family?
Its cheaper to buy a vacation property in Monaco for cripes sake.

So we bale out of the NHL completely as a country.
And bring grass-roots hockey back where it belongs.
We pass a law that forces Canadian owners to sell off their NHL franchises.
And the law says that all Canadian ex-owners cannot be sued or prosecuted for breach of contract in Canada.
Players either.
As far as Canadian -American relationships go I feel its high time we became the screwer as versus the screwee for a change.
Anyway, we could assist the Canadian owners of those now useless NHL franchises in flogging them anywhere they could get a buck: Iran, North Korea and Russia spring to mind.
And we start a CHL.
One team and one franchise for each province.
Ontario and Quebec each get two.
Just because.
Canadian players can remain in the NHL if they want.
Or join the new CHL.
Hopefully the new CHL would become a little more affordable for kids and families to attend.
And if attendance or advertising revenue suffer there are ways to boost popularity and attendance.
Eliminate penalties all together.
Ban the use of helmets, face-shields or jockstraps.

Now thats entertainment.

So, our answer to a trade issue is fascism?

No thanks. I appreciate your enthusiasm though ;-)

And of course in the true Liberal fashion...

Tail firmly tucked and heading away from the fight...;-)

Am I to understand that you are a war monger.

The prime minister has to sit on his hands and go through WTO with the grievances and he has to do this until America declares a trade war on Canada.

Nope, I had it tattooed on my arm long ago, when I wore the uniform of this great Nation. Never Retreat, Never Surrender.

No he doesn't.

Oh come off it, the Tories are the biggest US sycophants of them all. Harper has even said if we don't get a rollback on the Buy America policy he still won't make any retalitory moves.
I'ld love for you to show me where I said they'ld take the necessary action? ;-)

If a country declares war on you, do you send your troops home on holiday?

No, but you don't shoot yourself in the foot either. If the US decides to introduce trade barriers against Canada, then Canada reacts strategically. It's like in Aikido or Judo where you try to use the opponent's weight against him. If the US tries to prevent Canadian products from entering the US, then Canada helps it out by preventing Canadian resources from entering the US. I can guarantee that'll change their tune fast.
