But in this context, it seems the only reason you are wishing the Muslim a Happy Holiday is because you are inspired to say this because you are a Christian. Some Muslims will find this offensive because to them, this season has no particular relevance and it can be interrupted as you imposing your beliefs on them.

As a side note, some Muslims are now beginning to say that they find all the public Christmas decorations offensive, they are claiming that it is anti-Islamic.

I don't treat my neighbours according to theoretical arguments I encounter on the internet. And frankly, this whole 'war on Christmas' that so many stress over, that they start thread after thread about over the holiday season, boils down to a mere few loud individuals in a few places. I refuse to get caught up in its nonsense. Because once you turn it into a war, people will fight. I'd much rather stick to the reality of me and my neighbours, or me and the people I know, here and now, in real life, thanks.

Yes, life is always much rosier when you chose to close your eyes and believe there is no evil in the world!

lol... yes, life is better when you choose to treat your neighbour on their own merits, and not based on the worst person you can find who resembles them in the whole world. It's kind of a no brainer.

Judging ones character with ones eyes closed will always yield the results one desires. That's a no brainer !!

I have wished Muslims, Hindus and persons of other faiths a Merry Christmas. Not once have I ever heard a bad word, nor seen a grimace.

And dollars to donuts I have met more Muslims than you Durry.

Unless your neighbour IS that person.

:canada: If one wishes to wish one and all Happy Holidays, it's allowed.

Likewise if one wishes to wish one and all Merry Christmas, it's allowed.

The former can't help being inbred and retarded.

What part of 'on their own merits' escapes people?

I really don't think my Muslim neighbours are hiding their ill will behind gifts of basil plants, help with the renoes, dropping by with cookies, etc. They are exactly the same as the rest of my neighbours

The very first Christmas card in the world said Merry Christmas on it, so all others should follow suit.

World's first Christmas card, 1843. It was also the year that D ickens wrote A Christmas Carol

The first Christmas cards were commissioned by Sir Henry Cole and illustrated by John Callcott Horsley in London on the 1st of May 1843. The central picture showed three generations of a family raising a toast to the card's recipient: on either side were scenes of charity, with food and clothing being given to the poor. Allegedly the image of the family drinking wine together proved controversial to the prude Victorian British, but the idea was shrewd: Cole had helped introduce the Penny Post three years earlier (he designed the world's first postage stamp, the Penny Black, in 1840). Two batches totalling 2,050 cards were printed and sold that year for a shilling each.

Sir Henry Cole invented the Christmas card in 1843

it's whatever makes you happy...if you can't receive a well meant wish with an open heart I doubt if much else on the face of the earth matters at all

What about the Jews? If someone wished me a "Happy Hanukkah!"...I'd have no problem
with that. "Merry Quanza!" is still wishing someone good things...& surely nothing to take
offense with.

It is rude to wish a person Happy Holidays who celebrate Christmas- it is rude not to offer a Jew or Muslim their greeting when they celebrate their Holy days.
What does it cost a person to be polite. Nothing.

Sal- I put that out there for a response-
It would usually apply when you are familiar with the person
Example- You wish someone a Merry Christmas - It is only polite to respond in kind.
I see Muslims, Sikhs, Hindus at my work- Many wish me a Merry Christmas.
