The US has been in an ethical and moral crisis since it's founding.

Is it in a new crisis? Nope. It's the same one.
True enough.

Might be that the immoral and unethical conduct is not tolerated the way it was before ..when women were virtually powerless. and dominated by the male species.

That surrogacy thing like bullshit. Why would you resign for asking someone to be a surrogate for you? There has to be more to it.

Simple. He wanted them to be "surrogates," but he didn't favor artificial insemination.

He was thinking he was being clever in his way of asking them to be his mistresses, Cord.

The moral arc of the universe is on a bender.

I know you have a basically Western, Christian upbringing, and so are given to regarding the right-now as indicative, but some of us take a longer view.

It seems ridiculous but I can totally see it. Sometimes it boggles my mind what men think is flirting "hey baby wanna be a surrogate for my wife who can't have children wink wink." 100% believable. Some idiot would say that.

I couldn't find out for sure, but it's worth noting that Franks spent his life in Mormon country, and specifically in the part of the country the Fundamentalist Mormons (the ones who haven't repudiated polygyny) are most common.
