Calgarians respond to hateful graffiti at LRT station with act of kindness | Calgary Herald

Why can't there be more of this? A friend of mine has a son-in-law who is a Muslim. He says he's constantly asked if he is a Muslim or Sikh and he said he responds Muslim. My friend said he should be responding that he is a Canadian. He was born here. I thought that was a good answer!

If there are peaceful Muslims they should stop calling themselves Muslims. That would alleviate their fear of backlash against Muslims.
As it stands, Muslims are like members of the Westbury Baptist Church telling the public, 'But this is NOT what we believe'.
If it's not what they believed the smart thing to do would be disassociate themselves from it.
Muslims could still have their faith in Allah without calling themselves Muslims.

We had a rotten troll in here called dave. You should stop calling yourself davesmom. I'm sure it's easy to find something else to hate with the name change - like a tone or two colour difference, or an accent....

meh People are hardwired to categorize. So, a rose by any other name ....
But, it is a good point. If people started saying, "I am a humanitarian" or "I am a duck" or even saying, "mind your own biz" rather than referring to anything political or religious, they might avoid some of the hostility directed at them.

Why do you lump all muslims together, and then don't do the same for Baptists?

I agree. Additionally, if there are Christians that aren't hypocrites, they shouldn't call themselves Christian.

and when you think about it, do the rest of us get asked what our religious affiliations is? No. Very seldom do I get asked if I'm Catholic, usually only after me telling someone I have 7 kids. What someones religious affiliation really is no ones concern.
