Hey JimMoyer

I would fly a big ole guess into the mix about pot and schizophrenia - one would have to harbor a predisposition for the disease which may or may not be exacerbated by the use of marijuana - depending upon the length of time, degree of usage and as I said before - predisposition.

The use of pot could possibly bring out tendency to destroy reliable self- control in those pre-destined to get into full blown disease .... it often presents in late teens or early twenties.... a typical age for use of pot as well.

Personally I think resorting to marijuana as a reliable medication is the work of fools who have run out of theses to present to keep their public status current.
There are plenty of proven medications which can alleviate the most challenging of symptoms without the 'iffy' idea of using pot.

Very often, the side-effects of doctor-prescribed junk make quality of life much less than enjoyable. Reliable medication? What is? Is nature ever evenly-distributed? It becomes much less reliable the farther down the dealer chain one goes. One of the big side-effects of many chemical patches or the ailment for which they're designed is depression. Should that be a need for even more chemistry?

Curio,

It's funny that so much baggage comes along with one plant and not others. Plants are the source for a large amount of pharmaceuticals. The secondary metabolites plants produce to help maintain their ecological interactions come in handy for our metabolism too.

All of these compounds have their uses, and their limitations. Those that hoist any one drag as a panacea, I would call fools. If the cannabis plant can produce a powerful drug, for example in the role of cancer metabolism and the cell mediated recycling (death to cancer!), then that will be very useful. Especially if it avoids the nasty drawbacks associated with other chemotherapeutics.

Time will tell. If and when, it won't be smoking reefer for these kinds of treatments ;)

I've been known to kill cute, fluffy kittens while under the influence of herb, that shyte is crazy!

Where does anyone get the idea that pot smokers are generally eco-warriors? Talk about stereotypes. You should take it a step further and also add that the majority of pot smokers also listen to Bob Marley exclusively are prone to saying "dude" a couple hundred times per hour and can't hold down a job.

Pot or Marijuana is a bad drug for the government because they are losing tax money that they could put on it if it was legal.

It’s bad for the police because they have to enforce a law, which is used by half of the police force.

If everybody who drinks alcohol were to smoke pot domestic violence would be dramatically deceased.

This would mean a major job loss for lawyers, doctors, social workers, and the shrinks who like to mess with your mind.

For these people this is a good law

Many users of pot seem to be all over the 'medical' community re: awful drugs they
prescribe. That seems to be an excuse, because there are many many very beneficial drugs on the market, and a few, not so good. Yes, some drugs are
'life over limb' types, but that is a last resort, and if it saves one's life, then I would
think 'that' is a benefit. There are many drugs that people have to take till the end of their lives, as, without them, they wouldn't survive, eg. insulin, one of many.
The medical community aren't 'criminals', they are trying to help people, but as in
any walk of life, including pot smokers, there are always bad seeds in the lot, and
the pharmaceutical community is highly criticized, and in some instances, with
good reason, but without them, people would suffer and die.

using pot for "medicinal" reasons is just the newest "reason de etre" for pot smokers..... always looking for an excuse or a reason to justify their addiction.

Well, all I can say is that a good friend of mine is an RCMP officer, spent a few years as undercover vice narc, and somehow the topic of pot comes up almost every time we hang out. He gave me a funny compliment last the subject came up- he knows I blaze at will but noted that he had NEVER smelled it on me or had any other indications that I had anything to do with the substance besides the fact that he knows the deal.

And as a friend, he has no problems with me smoking the stuff, his sole concern is based on him wanting to avoid any legal entanglements in case somehow cops appear at the same place where he is while someone is smoking pot.

I smoke pot and I am glad asshats "hate" me, beating up goofballs gets tiresome and if they stay nice and far away and out of my face I don't feel the need to school them. So to trolls like Sublime- just remember that saying dumb crap like that in real life can often have consequences, you picked the perfect chicken-crap medium to express your views :D

EDIT My wife doesn't want me to use "asshat" anymore, so from now on please replace all references to the term in my posts with "spoo gargler"

You don't eat meat AND smoke pot. What an extremist. I bet you recycle too!

I am only guessing here, but I think I am on safe grounds to think that pot smokers are among the loudest proponents of Green Earth and clean air.

Yet they are ready and willing to put the most vile stink in their lungs.

I hate pot smokers. I also hate nicotine addicts.

I'm very surprised to see you saying that Y.J. It was only a week or so ago that you were repulsed by the use of bibical terms for any other purpose and led me to believe you are a Christian. But yet you seem to shun one of the basic teachings of the Bible - "hate the sin, but love the sinner"- Do I detect a little hypocrisy here, Y.J.?

If you choose to see a whole community being criticized, that's what you will see. It's the pharmaeuticals - the drugs and their side effects - with which I take issue. Heart meds are one of those awful things I have to take. Whether I like them or not ... I take them because I know the alternative. Heart meds and ACE inhibitors have their own cruel side effects. Aside from the really nasty ones that I won't share here are the facts I can't take anti-inflamatories or diuretics.

Arthritis is another those dogs that track me through life. Inflamation and water retention are two of Uncle Arthur's gifts. Though weed does nothing for the joint swelling, it makes the pain bearable. It eases depression for one thing in that it's much easier to laugh at life. In de-toxifying, I pee lots. Thus, the weight gain from water retention and cholesterol drugs is lessened. Pain-killing chemistry? Screw that. I did 28 days in rehab to get off prescription drugs for which I always seemed to build tolerance. One of the side effects of P/Ks is augmented by those of ACE inhibitors. The vascular relaxing effect of weed counters that. Faith or not, weed hasn't failed me yet.

Your opinion is your own. The facts are not all in. Like any drug, it has its good and it has its bad.

Hey Tonington - perhaps it's a case of pharmaceutical pouting??? They didn't get there first?

Totally agree with your post - the legal pharmaceuticals are getting even more dangerous than some of the illegal drugs being denied people.

If my nephew was ever denied the relief he is getting from the doc's prescriptions for marijuana, I would find a way to purchase it illegally for him.

Nobody should have to be in pain when there is relief available legal or not.

The people who make all these powerful laws need to be in touch with the people who use the herb legally for their relief. It is suicide prevention at its finest.

Except for medical usage.

They smell , they act retarded, they support drug dealers!
Immature losers!

All this from some one who's been brainwashed,by society and probably takes the government stance on any and all illegal MEDICINE/PLANTS ,that were here before the laws to ban them, ever existed.!
Tell you what, sun light is bad for the skin lets make it criminal to sunbathe, water kills ppl if you stay under the influence, get real any government medicine is not there to cure you other wise they would be out of a job did you know you can STOP insulin injections for diabetes by sticking to a RAW FOOD diet, eating uncooked RAW VEGETABLES,and that
Scientists may have cured cancer last week.
Yep.
So, why haven't the media picked up on it?
Here's the deal. Researchers at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada found a cheap and easy to produce drug that kills almost all cancers. The drug is dichloroacetate, and since it is already used to treat metabolic disorders, we know it should be no problem to use it for other purposes.
Doesn't this sound like the kind of news you see on the front page of every paper?
The drug also has no patent, which means it could be produced for bargain basement prices in comparison to what drug companies research and develop.
Scientists tested DCA on human cells cultured outside the body where it killed lung, breast and brain cancer cells, but left healthy cells alone. Rats plump with tumors shrank when they were fed water supplemented with DCA.
Again, this seems like it should be at the top of the nightly news, right?
Cancer cells don't use the little power stations found in most human cells - the mitochondria. Instead, they use glycolysis, which is less effective and more wasteful.
Doctors have long believed the reason for this is because the mitochondria were damaged somehow. But, it turns out the mitochondria were just dormant, and DCA starts them back up again.
The side effect of this is it also reactivates a process called apoptosis. You see, mitochondria contain an all-too-important self-destruct button that can't be pressed in cancer cells. Without it, tumors grow larger as cells refuse to be extinguished. Fully functioning mitochondria, thanks to DCA, can once again die.
With glycolysis turned off, the body produces less lactic acid, so the bad tissue around cancer cells doesn't break down and seed new tumors.
Here's the big catch. Pharmaceutical companies probably won't invest in research into DCA because they won't profit from it. It's easy to make, unpatented and could be added to drinking water. Imagine, Gatorade with cancer control.
So, the groundwork will have to be done at universities and independently funded laboratories. But, how are they supposed to drum up support if the media aren't even talking about it?
All I can do is write this and hope Google News picks it up. In the meantime, tell everyone you know and do your own research
Scientists cure cancer, but no one takes notice - Opinion

So MR/MRS Anti pot smokers you are probably some one with personal and private Issues that need the MEDs not the sane society that has to deal with the screwballs like yourself on a daily basis ,

PS: have a sad lonely life being a SHEEP

Hey, some opinions are just that - opinions, there's no law saying opinions have to be true and I fully support anyone airing his/her opinion and should be encouraged to do it. It's the one tool the rest of us have to figure out who the IDIOTS are.

Freedom of expression is a wonderful thing, the problem many pot smokers face is ill-informed self-righteous bigots, who walk around as if they have no flaws, take for example cop drunk killing a person with his car, these are the real menaces of society, not the pot smoker who is artistically inclined or smoke pot to relax and obey cevilety.
I feel uncomfortable with people who have not allowed their brains to achieve intellectual advancement, by simply following tribal demented traditions.
