How Did the Red Cross Spend $106 Million Dollars in Haiti

Sunday, 16 May 2010 08:08

'The Red Cross raised over $450 million on behalf of victims of the catastrophic earthquake in Haiti. They say they've spent $106 million. A Haitian goes in search of evidence that the money was spent to help Haitians.'

YouTube - How did the Red Cross spend $106 Million Dollars in Haiti

I tried to watch it but the sound wouldn't work. I'm pretty sure that Red Cross is a reputable charity, but if you don't like it contribute to World Vision or the Sally Ann.

They spent $106 mill ON Haiti. This does not mean it was spent IN Haiti.
There is administration, advertising, bribes, double dipping etc all has to come out of this figure.

From what I heard the Red Cross fill up their reserves for all their other projects first and only gives a certain portion of monies for the actual specific disaster.

Unfortunately charities depend on disasters to fund their other worthy programs.

The only charity I see actually doing what they say is Sally Ann where they run a homeless shelter and at nights they drive a catering truck and give soup and sandwich to anybody that they see sleeping on the streets.

The more complex the charity the less monies go to the actual disasters.

Red Cross is an international organization which means it has an international office and regional offices and local offices and when one donates to them money flows to all the other offices.

Red Cross also has different level of involvement in a disaster in different countries.

This video has nothing to do with Canada so the first question that comes to mind is why bother raising it on a website called "CANADIAN CONTENT" ? It's a video by an otherwise unemployed Haitian AMERICAN who went to school, worked and lives in the USA and is paid by an AMERICAN newspaper in Miami to visit Haiti and do a video they post online as part of the newspaper's rant against an AMERICAN relief agency and the U.S. First Lady for supporting it. So while in Haiti does this guy pitch in to help? No, he strolls around filiming desperate people and asking a few of them facetious questions and adding in his own sarcastic commentary. What a waste of time.
