It was SO late!

YouTube - ‪Rome Hit on Horton - Canucks at Bruins - R4G3 2011 Playoffs - 06.06.11 - HD‬‏

I'll even say that the damage came from the head hitting the ice. I didn't think there was enough body to head contact. Does that make sense?

He didn't have the puck though. Sort of like a late hit on the QB.

I've seen later hits before(thankfully the hit players didn't suffer as much of an injury as Horton), but the hit in this case was definitely late.

I agree with you 100% about his head hitting the ice probably being the culprit behind Horton getting the concussion. His head bounced very high when it hit, and that is never a good thing even with a helmet on!8O

Off topic for a bit, talloola...........I was wondering how your grandson did in the tournie???

he did very well, considering it was his first canadian tour tournament, there was 170 players in
the tournament, 70 made the cut, he was one of them, was sitting tied for 40th, then on the final
two days, he golfed well, but had two or three 'bad' holes, (double bogeys), and he finished tied
with others at 46th, (came home with $860.00 in his jeans), a good start.

he shot plus 2 - EVEN - plus 2 - EVEN - tournament score plus 4

he had lots of birdies, and lots of pars, but the bogies eliminated the birdies,
and the couple of double bogies put him in the plus catagorie.

thanks for asking.

I thought the statement by Rome after meeting with the Murphy was very heart-felt and honest - good on him. What is done is done so we like the Canucks have to move on. Glad to hear that Ballard of the fabulous hip-check and Tanev will be in the game tonight - those two played together last time they got the call.

Our Father, who art in Rogers Arena, Hockey be thy name.
Thy will be done, Lord Stanley's Cup will be won, on home ice as
well away. Give us this day our hockey sticks and forgive us our
penalties, as we forgive those who crosscheck against us. Lead
us not into elimination, but deliver us to victory, in the name
of the fans, the Vancouver Canucks and the Holy Puck.
Amen![/COLORGO, CANUCKS, GO!

GO, CANUCKS, GO!

love it

I saw a special on helmets in sports. The pain of a hit to the head is not there but it does not stop the serious injury which is the brain to the interior skull collision. The special was on football helmets and one of the medical specialists was saying that helmets provided a false sense of safety. He was stating that a player would not use his bare head on another players bare head as he would know that he was going to crack his head open as well.

On the other hand, football and hockey are serious contact sports and there is not really a way to make them safe. The speeds of these players and their ever increasing sizes and strength just makes it worse.

the hockey helmets are not near as protective as the football helmets, one of the lions players talked
about the helmets one day, and mentioned that the hockey helmets are very light and non protective.
The players never do the strap up properly, they all hang loose.

Even if they were as thick as the football helmets the secondary brain collision (if I can call it that) is still going to happen.

That can happen in any physical sport, eg. a hitter sliding into the first baseman and taking him out.

In the case of the hitter sliding into the first basemen, isn't it the participants who are putting themselves into harms way? Why does a hockey player have to elbow a guy in the head after he's gotten rid of the puck? Things could go wrong potentially when the two are fighting over the puck, but after it's gone?

But yeah it's funny isn't it? Janet Jackson flashes her nipple for a split second during the Super Bowl and the US loses it's collective ****.

But how many children a year are seriously injured playing team sports and how many are injured by nipples? ;)

Shoot... since when do base runners smash into first basemen?

Collectively we laughed and thought it was funny. It was only the d-heads that wanted to make something of it and lead a silly crusade.

Depends. It depends on how fast male drivers are driving when they smash into some other car's rear end because they were looking at some hotties nipples and azz.

It will, Eagle. If you think of it as whiplash of the brain itself - like a sponge sloshing against the side of a bucket - you get a better picture of what happens with a serious hit to the head.

Who's he?

He'd probably say get rid of the helmets.

One of the greatest Canucks who ever donned skates- scored 35 goals one year (and that was a record considering he only spent about 35 minutes a year out of the penalty box) One of the last real men to play hockey.

A 1/2 second isn't a long time in a defenceman's brain.

That, right there, is part of the problem. That attitude. Even Don Cherry has abandoned that foolishness. Yes, you need to be prepared to defend your goalie and your star, but that whole 'real men' attitude needs to be left behind, with the folks who called Wendell Clark 'Wendy'.

Playing defence takes smarts, too, and your crack about a defenceman's brain shows the lack of understanding of hockey that a certain Talloola accused me of having.

Don Cherry unlike me respects loud stupidity! Maybe DOUGIE was an exception!

Watching Boston vs Tampa Bay, I had a feeling that Vancouver couldn't beat Boston.

I'm more certain of that now.

I'm not sure why the Sedins play during the playoffs, they don't do much. Mind you, none of the others have done anything so far tonight.

I hope the hometown advantage comes into play, but unless the Canucks learn how to handle the puck, and Luongo decides to stop it once in a while, I can't see it.

It's sad to see them lose the two game advantage they had BUT it still comes down to 2 out 3 and Canucks haven't lost home ice advantage.

While Vancouver is getting outplayed, I would like to know why Marchand is being allowed to continue with his idiocy. All the things he's done so far and he isn't getting any penalties called? Letting crap like that go will only cause things to escalate later.
