I'll even say that the damage came from the head hitting the ice. I didn't think there was enough body to head contact. Does that make sense?

He didn't have the puck though. Sort of like a late hit on the QB.

I've seen later hits before(thankfully the hit players didn't suffer as much of an injury as Horton), but the hit in this case was definitely late.

Off topic for a bit, talloola...........I was wondering how your grandson did in the tournie???

he did very well, considering it was his first canadian tour tournament, there was 170 players in
the tournament, 70 made the cut, he was one of them, was sitting tied for 40th, then on the final
two days, he golfed well, but had two or three 'bad' holes, (double bogeys), and he finished tied
with others at 46th, (came home with $860.00 in his jeans), a good start.

he shot plus 2 - EVEN - plus 2 - EVEN - tournament score plus 4

he had lots of birdies, and lots of pars, but the bogies eliminated the birdies,
and the couple of double bogies put him in the plus catagorie.

The special was on football helmets and one of the medical specialists was saying that helmets provided a false sense of safety. He was stating that a player would not use his bare head on another players bare head as he would know that he was going to crack his head open as well.

On the other hand, football and hockey are serious contact sports and there is not really a way to make them safe. The speeds of these players and their ever increasing sizes and strength just makes it worse.

In the case of the hitter sliding into the first basemen, isn't it the participants who are putting themselves into harms way? Why does a hockey player have to elbow a guy in the head after he's gotten rid of the puck? Things could go wrong potentially when the two are fighting over the puck, but after it's gone?
