I don't agree Talloola. Vancouver fans must be among the most patient in the league. We were in the Stanley Cup final in 1982 and we have never been that close again. We have Roberto Luongo who is thought by some to be the best goaltender in the league, yet, a couple games ago he was yanked because he let in the first three or four shots. Almost every game Luongo lets in one or two easy goals. I admit that once in a while Luongo gets in a zone and they can't throw sand by him but is Luongo going to win a cup? I honestly don't know. What I would like to see is some of the consistancy that we pay 7 million a year for. Like I said earlier, If the Canucks can put together four or five wins in a row, I'll jump back on the bandwagon. I think Vancouver's big problem is that win or lose, the fans still fill the seats.

Fans can't be in a position to be patient or not, and if
fans are impatient, and won't watch because the team isn't playing the way 'they' want them to, and they quit watching, it is their loss, they don't get to watch hockey any more, and only want to win, can't take losing.
They
either follow the team and understand what they are doing,
or they follow when the team is doing well, then turn their
back when they are not. Vancouver is a hockey city, has
been since I was a little girl, before the NHL ever came
to town, they love hockey and will turn out, and have turned
out for poorer teams as well as good ones, nothing to do
with patience, most of the fans know that you might win
and you might lose, so that's the way it goes.
They turn out in Toronto every saturday night, to a losing
team, they love their hockey, and support their team, good
or bad, same as montreal, only montreal fans are vicious,
and boo their team if they play one bad period, have for
years.
I will accept Luongo as he is, and
live with his greatness, and not greatness, tell me who
you would change him for, with exception of other top
goalies in the league, who are no better than he is, (exception kiprisoff),
and Miller, who is shaky of late, since olympics, and also nabokov also since
olympics, and they make just as much money or more. Canucks had a line up of goalies
come and go, all of which were good goalies, but had either
problems or inconsistency or injuries, and now we have Luongo,
who, this season has ebbs and flows, but all in all, has
saved games, come up with mind boggling saves, and some
games he was pulled, and some of those games, he wasn't
pulled because of 'his' play, sometimes it was the teams
play, so out he would come, probably a game the next day,
so rest him, as the game is out of reach, and raycroft can
finish.
Is that all people think of, playing for the stanley cup?
I love hockey, enjoy every game, win or lose, feel bad for
the team when they have a bad game, (but not for myself),
this isn't about me, or any fan, it is about the team and
the players, they don't owe me anything, my life isn't
defined by what they do. They love to play hockey, and
do their best to win every game, and I love to watch hockey,
and watch every game.
They need me, and I need them, but I don't expect them to
cater to me, or make my emotional day, and I'm not going
to turn my back, just because they might not win, or they
might not make it through the first or second round of the
playoffs.
If you expect a goalie to be brilliant every game because
he is making lots of money, then be prepared to have
dissapointments, because all of the top goalies have
stinkers, and also let in the odd easy goal. It is a
team effort, and on many occasions, the defense leave him
out to dry, don't cover the 'back door' shots, which they
should, or they don't get out of the way when he needs to
see the shot, and the odd easy one goes in, just as the
players also make some errors.
The most consistent goalie in the league, in my opinion,
is kiprisoff, and if he wasn't, that team would be down
in the basement with Edmonton.

Ryan Kesler agreed to a new contract today, 6 years at
almost 30 million, just under 5 mil. per season.

He has earned the big contract, has payed his dues for a
long time, so is being rewarded for his efforts, but it
won't take long to hear the feedback if he has one bad
game, as the money he will be making will be thrown in
his face by fans, who expect perfection every game from
every player.

Everyone loves Kesler, he has given his all for the team,
and has come a long way, and improved each season.
Congratulations to Ryan.

I guess there's a silver lining Talloola. The Flames just won a game, but it was San Jose they beat. That probably tuckered them out so much they'll lose the next game for sure LOL Now S.J. has surrendered first place to Chicago. Canucks have good incentive now to beat Edmonton, who may just win tonight.

Vancouver is like Toronto. It doesn't matter how dismally the team plays, people will fill the seats. I've been watching the Canucks since they were in the Western Hockey League forty years ago and the average Vancouver hockey fan barely knows what an offside is. I expect the team to try to win. If a team isn't trying to win the Stanley Cup, What are they doing even playing? Gillis is the first manager the Canucks have had that says he is comitted to build a winning team...We'll see.

Yeah, the team is trying to win the cup, that's it for them,
their reward, but I was talking about fans. I don't think
about the cup as the ultimate, I like the whole season,
I like the playoffs, but my outlook is that, the playoffs
are a 'little' season all by themselves, and any team
can win, and the ones that 'don't, are not losers, they
all made it there, there all were good enough all season
to be in the playoffs, that's good enough for me, and
winning the cup is just icing on the cake.

Yeah I have watched hockey on the west coast too for about 60 years, first
the New Westminster Royals in the old western hockey league, then the
canucks in l970 when they came into the NHL, but I think vancouver hockey
fans are very smart, and know their hockey, of course with the exception
of a few.

yeah calgary won, and detroit lost to edmonton in a shoot
out, so now calgary and detroit are tied in the standings.

The Sedins.

they aren't the stars every game, almost, so I guess they
can have an off night once in a while, I wouldn't call it
floating though, that makes them sound like they aren't
even trying, and I don't think they ever do that, sometimes
things just don't work as well, that's life.

LOL!!!
How true!

you can tell by the behavior of a hockey crowd, if they
are hockey wise or not, and you will have to leave
vancouver if you want to do that. You probably
have never watched a game in a u s city, many of those
fans holler at the wrong time and get a kick out of
stuff that we take for granted during a game.

The media and announcers have often mentioned how
savvy vancouver fans are, and can't be fooled by
much of anything that happens on the ice, and
hockey fans usually know at a very young age, 'what'
an off-side is, my kids knew that before they were 10.

OK, canucks tonight against detroit. Detroits performance
last night against Edmonton was less than stellar, maybe
they are saving their best for us.
Detroit and Calgary are now tied in the standings, and
battling each other for that last playoff spot.

Sure glad we aren't part of that. The good play of the
canucks this season has now given them assurance of being
in the playoffs, our position at the top of our division
could change, but even if it does it's no 'biggy', doesn't
really matter who we play in playoffs, but being first in
the division would be nice, gives us home ice advantage,we are there now, might as well fight to stay there.

The playoffs will be quite a battle. I wouldn't want to
bet on a conference winner. Maybe calgary and detroit will
be a little shaky, they can't seem to rise to a higher
level right now, so that could hurt them in the first round.

Very exciting game, another rehersal for playoffs.
Detroit is fighting for their playoff lives, and with
.2 of a second left, Zetterberg backhanded a beautiful
shot for the winning goal.

We had a couple of mistakes that were costly. Bieksa
looked goofy circling around a puck that he clearly
could have kicked over to the corner, and edler gave the
puck away for a goal, so those were costly.
Too bad ehrhoff's stick broke on that last play, he didn't have
any way to check zetterberg, as he skated across the front to take
his shot, great 'backhand shot', the hardest shot for a goalie to judge.

The third goal was tipped off of salo's stick and changed
direction and fooled luongo.

Daniel's goal was a question mark if he closed his hand
over it, but let go.

So, we have another point, and a little fortunate to get that
point. Detroit now goes 2 points up
on calgary, and sits in 8th place for the moment.

Detroit had a poor outing against edmonton last night,
so you knew they would be sharp tonight. They took a
3 day vacation and practice time in Kelowna while waiting
for the edmonton game, and they looked very rusty and
unorganized last night, they were lucky to come out with
the one point, but they did.
Tonight detroit looked like the stanley cup winners that they
are, (2 yrs ago), but they haven't played that way for some time,
they 'have' to get the wins, to stay ahead of calgary, and remain
in 8th place.

Chicago lost in a shootout tonight against phoenix.
Both phoenix and vancouver have a chance to go to first
place in the west, so it will be a very exciting few
games down to the wire.

canucks have 44 wins this season, 4th in the league, behind washington,
phoenix, and chicago, and the canucks can be one of a very few teams this
year that can reach 50 wins.

Washington have scored the most goals in the NHL with 283
Canucks are second with 236
Chicago next with 234
San Jose 4th with 231

A great time of the year for hockey, I love it.

p.s., interesting, I've been listening to team 1040 after the game, and
people were phoning in and blaming luongo for the breakaway goal he let
in, and 'no' mention of the giveaway by edler at all.
No one mentioned the ridiculous dance bieksa was doing around that puck,
and stood there and let bertuzzi take it away from him and stuff it in the net, but people were blaming luongo.
They had over 50 shots on canucks, he let in 4, 2 were the blatant giveaways,
one was datzyuk's shot, and the other was the backhand by zetterberg. Wonder
why all of the others were stopped by a goalie that is so bad, ridiculous.

If we started the playoffs today we would be playing nashville 3-6

detroit defeated pittsburg tonight, so now they are 4 pts.
ahead of calgary, looking good.

canucks go into edmonton tomorrow night.
it would be real nice if canucks can get to 100 pts.,
just 4 more wins will do it.

demitra will be missing in action, personal reasons.
raymond will take his spot on that line with kesler and
grabner, those three played together earlier and looked
very good, such speed.

GO CANUCKS GO

canucks in edmonton tonight at 6:00.

watched detroit play pittsburg last night, detroit look
extremely strong in their last two games, pittsburg didn't
match them at all. No one will want to play detroit in
the first round, right now it would be chicago, but detroit
could inch up that list toward the end of regular season.

Hope its not vancouver, because the way detroit played their
last two games no one is going to beat them. Zetterberg
and Datzyck are playing very strong, and that young goalie
they have, 'Howard', seems to be coming into his own just at
the right time.
