I think his name is bob mccowan, and yes, he's extremely irritating, and I
would like to bomb the tv everytime he shows his ugly face, and have you
ever seen anyone who loves himself 'bigtime' like he does.
Toronto, toronto, toronto, they think it all starts and stops with them.

Well doesn't everything start and stop in Toronto????

Anyway he is on a Toronto station, and he probably knows more about sports than you will ever know.... :p

I notice the maple laffs are playing better this year without Sundin, who, by the way, has retreated to Sweden...

The Leafs are playing better because they got rid of a lot of dead weight(of which Sundin was NOT part of). They also have a head coach that is not willing to coddle any of the players and will make them work for their playing time.

midway through last season, sundin was a disruptive force on the team

The bear/buckweat saying, my husband says it all the time.
Canucks will have their hands full tonight, as San Jose has not lost a home game, regular time, this season.
Anyone who goes into their rink has their work cut out for them, so if we
play our best but still lose, it will be expected, but one never knows, anything
can happen.
Burrows might get a hat trick:smile:
Our game last night was ours to have, until we took stupid penalties toward
end of game, almost gave it away, but hung on to win it.
Very important win, as a loss there, and a loss tonight, would take canucks
into xmas break on a three game losing streak, and they don't want that.
They flew down to san jose right after game last night, probably didn't get
to sleep till about 4, then I wonder how much sleep they would get, cause I
know if I do that, I still wake up at the same time, then snooze later in the
day.
They did a sleep analysis test and learned that the hockey players don't get
to sleep for about four hours after a home game, they travelled
last night instead of this morning, and also nhl rule states that teams must
be at destination one day before game, so really, they had no choice.
Our next game after xmas is home to edmonton on the 26th.

I'm not sure if those boys can win two nights in a row on the road.

well, where do we begin.
canucks had no legs in first period, (lead legs), quite common on the second game
of a back to back, anaheim was the same tonight in the first period with calgary.
we took all kinds of stupid penalties.
they started the wrong goalie, but sanford does have back issues and they didn't
want to play him back to back, but cory schneider was not up to the task, at all.
When sanford came in the game settled down, and the canucks were skating
better and had found their legs by then.
I missed the two quick goals starting the second period, but sanford made many
very good stops after that, and the game just went along without much intensity
after that, san jose didn't need any more goals, so they played solid defense, and
that team has 'no' weak areas anywhere.
canucks just hung in there and played out the game, probably couldnt' wait for
it to end.
We will play them better next time, when the team is 'fresh', and not tired.
It's too bad the nhl can't do something about teams playing back to back, it is
very hard on the body, the muscles need at least 48 hours after a game to return
to normal, for everyone, and to add to it, they had to travel as well.
Calgary beat anaheim tonight, so now they are ahead of us by 'one' again.
San Jose also have 3 good players injured who were not playing, and when they
return, they will be 'even' stronger.
San Jose has had a very very good team for a few years now, but 'choked' in
the playoffs, now they have improved their defence and added a better coach,
so it will be interesting to see how they do in playoffs this season.
Detroit gave them a thrashing last week.

Sundin should fly into town on the 27th or 28th, then practice with the team
for a week or so, until he can join in a game.
He will help, sure can't hurt, it's a gain for the team with no losses.
I wonder when ripien and johnson will be back, have been gone a long time.

I love your optimism but I think the CAnucks got him a few years too late. Remember when they had Messier, Mogilny and Bure and still didn't do worth a hoot? I think their success lies with the young hard working kids and the likes of Linden and Stan Smyl (not the most talented, but the most honest)

that's right, but sundin is not a long term signing, one year or two or three at
the most, no one is being fooled here, especially the management.
He is a big talented 'honest' player, he had a great year last year, and that is
working in his favour.(on a very bad team I might add). Sure, he will have to play himself into shape, but no one
is expecting him to be the saviour or the king of the canucks, just a big center,
which they need, and he won't hurt the team, he will help them, he has never
been a slacker like mogilny, and it won't be a messier mess, bure was amazing
and it's too bad he didn't stay the course, but his knees were allready on the
way out, so it is good for the canucks that he did leave when he did.
Gillis won't sign any veteran players to any long term deals, or any other players,
with exception of a very few, (maybe the twins), don't really know. They didn't
have to give any players up for sundin, and the deal is just till the end of this
season, so what's the problem, sundin said he wants to know 'that' he wants to
play next year and that the canucks 'want' him to play next year, so that is why he
wouldn't sign on for the two years, sounds fair to me, and also, he said that he
doesn't want to tie up cap money for the canucks, so, if he becomes a free agent
again at the end of this season, money starts all over, doesn't hang around and
stay on top of the cap.
everyone is trying to make this into a huge huge change in the organization but
it is just a deal on the side, and the management has their long term plans in
place, to build from within, and look for any trades that will 'help' them WIN.
Gillis has said it many times.
He really helped the canucks by waiting till now to play, as it has saved them
5 million, and then he took a discount on the pro rated amount, and saved them
another 750 thousand, as, if he had of come in september is would have been
for 10 mil.
I have learned a lot about him over this time, and I was one of the whiners who
complained for a long time that he is making mockery of the league, and he
should make up his mind, but we all listened to the media, and they don't know
'squat', and when I actually listened to him talk, then it all fell into place, as
he only decided to play about 3 weeks ago, then he decided to join the canucks.
He never wanted to go to new york FIRST, as everyone said, and he definitely
didn't want any team to drop players to make room for him, he got that all
straightened out with matias ohlund, the day before he signed with vancouver.
He is honorable and thinks for himself, doesn't let anyone sway him, and he
is very patient, and doesn't pay any attention to the media, as we all should
do as well.
But it' is the only source we have sometimes, but be careful, as they have to
write their stories, and do their radio and tv, so they think up something
each and every day to fill that time, and keep our 'ears' perked, doesn't have
much to do with the truth.

The Canucks did not look like a good team last night at all. They were better than the Leafs were, though. Wow. They got beat 8-2 by Dallas! At least Vancouver got beat by the best team in the NHL right now, and not a cellar-dweller like Dallas.8O

Schneider was awful. Didn't give them a chance to weather the storm, giving up lousy goals. #'s 2 and 3 should never have gone in, but once they did the game was over.

I honestly think they need Luongo back sooner rather than later. He will be a stabilizing force for them.

yeah, he's definitely not ready for the heavy load in the nhl, he needs more
time to play and get a little older and more experienced, but he is a very good
goalie, hope this stint hasn't shattered his confidence, but I hope they don't
play him any more. If luongo isn't going to be back for another month or so,
maybe they can rent a goalie somewhere for awhile.;-)

canucks play edmonton tonight, i'm sure sanford will be in goal, hope so.
this is a must win for us, ( they all are, so that's silly to say), but we're coming
off a loss, so it's time for a win to keep pace, one point behind calgary.

junior tournament starts today as well, don't know the times, but it's in the
east so, no games in the middle of the night, as it is sometimes from europe.

well it's simple. canucks played one excellent period, oilers played two.
and that equals a win for oilers.

The Leafs played about as good as Vancouver it seems. They lost to the Islanders(THE ISLANDERS!8O) 4-1. Not a good night for either of us.

At least Canada won 8-1!
