Ahahah Flames win 3-2 in the shootout. BL Talloola. Flames go to the top of the NWest.

When it came right down to it in the shoot out, the Canucks couldn't score, and Luongo couldn't stop a Greyhound Bus.

What a great game, Louie kind of sieved out right at the
end, but hey, that's life, theres always next time, and
the rivalry continues on, just the way it should.

Was like a playoff game.[/quote]

+1, Was the most hard fought game of hockey I've seen in a while. Both teams really wanted that win.

Luongo seemed off his game in the shootout, its not like him to let 3 in.

yeah, he's usually great in shoot outs, was surprised to
see him let in 3 in a row.

Whatever happened to the art of a goalie keeping his stick on the ice? Is there any reason for them to have sticks anymore? Goalies today rely so much on overinflated pillows. If the league does reduce padding sizes, Luongo he might have to learn how to play goal.

Pretty much. All they have to do is butterfly and ½ the net is covered by their leg pads. Thats why goalies that really on skill and reflexes like Brodeur are so good to watch.

I guess that's one reason why the goalies are getting bigger
and bigger, soon luongo will look like an ordinary sized
goalie, because they can play so much on their knees, and
still have the top of the net covered, and use those pads
like pistons, kiprisoff has it down pat, just watch his
legs when he plays, pure butterfly, but so good at it.
There are some new goalies coming up that are 6'5", and
they will probably get bigger than that.
Goals are getting scored, the big pads aren't stopping
that from happening., and it is the same for all of them,
so don't know what the problem is.

Canucks scored 2 out of 3 Juan, Luongo just had to stop one, and it would
have continued on.
Yeah and if pigs had wings......;-)......I was disgusted with our whole performance in the shoot out. Another reason why Luongo shouldn't be captain. The Canucks were out-hit, out-shot, and eventually out-scored.

To be quite honest I had a negative feeling about the whole game (maybe unfairly), just thought a tired team should never have been allowed to make the headway they did on our ice BUT I guess maybe they weren't that "tired". Ironically the guy who kept us in it for 60 minures blew it in about 2 minutes. But then we have to remember the guy is after all only human.

Apparently next year the league will be downsizing goaltender equipment. Some of these guys better get back to learning their craft.

Luongo looked very human last night.....starting with the goal that made it two all. In hindsight, Vancouver would have won without that goal. I may be treating the Canucks a little unfairly but everyone on that team is not working hard enough. The Sedins and Burroughs and Kestlers can't do it all. The refereeing was bad enough. There were two obvious cases of boarding......one called and one not called by a ref that watched both. I'm rambling here but what were the shots on goal again? 40 to 20?

Obviously, the team was depending too much on Luongo and their offence and not enough on their defence. with a 40 - 20 shots on goal it is painfully obvious that something needs to be said/done to their defensive team.

Calgary has been in the same boat, relying far too much on Kipper, and then having their asses reamed out by Sutter.

Canucks are a little thin on the d-line these days. Used two minor leaguers last night, and O'Brien looked awful.

Yeah, they were the better team tonight, but I do think
the absence of bieksa and salo meant a lot and made a
difference, and o'brian had a bad first period, that quick
penalty he got right at the beginning of the game, really
shook him up, and he was too 'passive' for quite a while
after that, scared of getting another penalty, but then he
played better later on.
The out shot part of the game doesn't bother me, as I do
think canucks were making sure they were not giving up
serious scoring chances, because of lack of defence, scoring
chances for me are more important than actual shots, as
many of those shots are from outside, and don't mean much.
Also, Kiprisoff made 3 huge saves that looked like sure goals, and made a difference in the game, he had a great game, as always, and is the main reason calgary is where
they are on the standings, as they don't have much in the
way of scoring goals.

O'Brien looks awful quite often. Like when he took a stupid penalty in the first minute of the game.

He was fine after the first period, and his play of late
has been great, a lot of pressure put on those guys with
missing defencemen, in such an important game, that game
last night will make him better, he needs those highly
stressful situations, so he can deal with playoffs when
they come around, he has lots of potential, so we should
see the big picture.

Not a bad game, Canucks had lots of chances, just didn't
capitalize enough.
Short handed goal for them early on, and 'no' it's not
Luongo's fault, it was Edler's coughing up the puck that
caused the breakaway, and can't fault the goalie on a
breakaway, the guy just made a good shot.

And it's too bad through the last period that the referee
had to become part of the play by making some questionable
calls, one being an interference call on burrows, the other was
a diving call 'earlier',against burrows, which I couldn't see, those were
very 'cheap', and then we were two players short, and
nashville scored. Referee shouldn't become that noticeable
in the game, and be part of the outcome.
Nashville played a better 'defensive' game, their back-end
outplayed our back-end.
Kyle Wellwood is playing very poorly, canucks need a better
center, and others on that third line.
Demitra is very close to coming back, so that could take
care of wellwood, and grabner is playing very well in Manitoba, so perhaps he will be back soon too.

We are in Minnesota on Wednesday.

Colorado defeated Calgary in a shoot out, so they are tied
now, with canucks right behind them 2 points back.

Note: Have heard an interview with Burrows, and he said "the referee came up
to me just before the game started and said that I embarrassed him back in
nashville when we last played there, and he is going to get me back for that
tonight. According to Vineault, there will be a report to the league, and
they will go from there.
If no one else saw or heard that incident, the referee will just deny it, and
the league will protect 'their own', and burrows will have no power, and
might even get fined, but good for him for stating it anyway, don't think he
would make up such a story, he's too smart for that, and would know that he
would be found out.

Seriously how do you give up a short handed breakaway goal?... I felt sorry for Luongo watching that, he must have been standing there wondering what the **** he did to deserve that coming towards him.

That wouldn't surprise me one bit. The refs really had it in for him that game, they absolutely handed the game to the Preds with the 4-3 PP in the 3rd. I usually don't call out refs because they do have a hard and thankless job, but as for that one guy this time next week he shouldn't be in a job. Hes lucky that he refs in a civilized country like Canada and not South America or he'd most likely be shot after the game (And yes that does happen a lot to soccer refs).

I guess there are a$$holes in every walk of life. Burrows certainly doesn't have to do anything to prove himself and there's no way he'd lie about something like this. If the refs can't do their jobs properly they deserve to be embarrassed. Do you suppose the likes of Andy Van Helleman or Kerry Fraser were ever embarrassed? Either they have class or they don't.

It seems when they re ran the film for that time, just before
the anthem, it shows that referee skating up to burrows and
stopping to talk to him.
They have been chatting up a storm about this incident on
team 1040 this morning, it will be interesting to see just
how the league sweeps this one under the rug, and trys to
blame burrows, then, either fine him or suspend him, we'll
have to watch it unfold.
It would be good to see the NHL 'do the right thing', for a
change.
