In my view, Luongo will take some heat for this series, and rightfully so. You can put anyone in net and have a low goals against average if 5 guys constantly box everyone out and block shots. Sooner or later the team has to open up and get some goals, and when they do the guy making the big bucks in goal has to stop something significant. The team in front of him today played about as good as possible. Even Sundin came through. This game result wasn't isolated in this series. He didn't look very good in any game.

If the only way they can win is to try and trap all game long and stop shots from reaching the net then why bother paying a goalie 7 million dollars?

Yes, I agree, we could do that with Cory Schneider, (entry level contract for two years.)while he gets his feet
wet, and gains experience. He's only 20 years old, and I would hate to see
Gillis trade him, he is 'our' draft pick, we should keep him.

What an ugly game!8O I thought they might have won after coming back from being down 3-1, but once they coughed up the 5-4 lead(which didn't last very long) I knew they were done.

The Washington/Pittsburgh game was another doozy. I don't think Fleury was very sharp in net for Pittsburgh, otherwise they probably would have won. Game 7 tomorrow night. It should be a good one.

Yep, unfortunately the Canucks are still a team that can be very good or very bad- I did say back in that last game against ST. Louis where they went into O.T. after being ahead that they weren't Stanley Cup contenders playing like that. Maybe all for the best, now a guy can spend his evenings doing something else, like enjoying the outdoors.

Well, I still have the rest of the playoffs to follow due to the hockey pool, so I will have to hold off on enjoying the outdoors(besides, it has been quite chilly out the past few evenings!8O).

A couple things. #1 The Canucks lack the scoring punch necessary to be a real cup contender.
#2 Their defensive play needs a lot of work. Luongo was left high and dry in that third period. He had made some spectacular save in the game but he also let in some rather ordinary goals. He shouldn't have to make more than the first stop, the defense should be clearing away any rebounds.
I don't say we should fire Luongo but we may have burn't him out. It will depend on whether he wants to play in Vancouver another year. During the off-season they should try to find a couple good defensemen and they should hire a good defensive coach.

This young talented fast chicago team made our defense look old and slow last
night, and with each game that was played, chicago built up more confidence
knowing that they were much better against our team than they originally thought
they would be.
Looking at the chicago team tells us that, we must do a bit of a rebuild, and
get some younger, quicker defensemen, as this group aren't going to get the
job done much longer. Half of our defense is fine, but the other half need
new legs.
Luongo played average last night, but he is only part of the defense, and the
defense was awful.
This chicago team showed us the limit of other canucks too. Burrows did the
best he can, cause that is his limit, he can't play any better, his skating isn't
fluid enough to keep up with a team like that, i'm sure he will be fine throughout the regular season next year, but when pushed to upgrade his
skating, he is at his limit, and can't.
There are great skaters in the junior levels, and we will see them more and
more in the nhl, that is the 'new look', and will upgrade the nhl, as it has
become a very fast skating league, and that is great, I love it.
Kesler and Mason Raymond are 'really' the only two skaters that reach that
level.
The sedins are 'average' skaters, and it really showed in the playoffs, they
have good skills, but without that level of skating, they look mediocre in
playoffs, but I wouldn't get rid of them, they give us lots of points in the
regular season, and help the team immensely. We need a top line, with
better skaters, and the sedins will be a very good second line.

In the third periods chicago are 'fresh' and 'fast', and many of our players can't
keep that pace in the third.
I'm allready looking forward to next season, and see the changes, gillis will
have money to spend on u.f.a. players during the summer, and he can also
make a trade or two.
I don't think luongo was anywhere near burned out, he didn't play a whole
season, and when he came back from injury, it was like starting a new
season, took him a while to get going, he has played long seasons for years,
but this wasn't one of them.
The teams don't switch goalies in the playoffs, unless something terrible
happens in the games, even last night the game didn't get away on us till
near the end, it was tied, then one goal difference many times, you can't
pull your goalie in that situation.
Theodore was pulled in the first game for washington, he was awful, and we
haven't seen him since.
We were beaten by a better hockey team, they even physically took over and
started pushing us all over, and we buckled under their better play, it is that
simple.

Yes, the best is yet to come in the playoffs, lots of good hockey to see. That
seventh game in washington will be a doozer, and if detroit and chicago play
each other in the conference final, that will be very exciting.
There isn't that much hockey now, as teams have diminished, still lots of time
to do other stuff too.

I think my hockey watching days are over now until October, enjoyed talking to you talloola, and will again.

Yeah, I'm slowly tapering off, but not nearly finished. You must watch for my
'lawn bowling' thread. (just kidding)

What do you like to do in the summer, what are your hobbys, and how hot does
it get up there, too hot to be out in the afternoon?

MOstly puttering, except for the daily walk which I work at, otherwise putter in the veg. garden, little yard maintenance, swim with the grand kids, read books. It can go to 40 C here, generally about 35C during the dog days, but we have air conditioning.

The Canucks let Luongo down big time, they SUCK BIG TIME.

I'd say it's about even stephen, defence let a lot past and Luongo continued the trend in game 6. The main reason for an early finish was STUPID penalties. If it wasn't for 3 or 4 stupid penalties in this last round they'd still be alive for game 7.

That's YOUR opinion, like Talloola, Shadow and myself derived a lot of pleasure from it, SO YOU should just follow the threads that interest you and keep your nose out of the others. There's quite a few threads that I'm not cognizant about and I just stay out of them and MIND MY OWN BUSINESS.

Yes, yes, yes we all know you haven't watched hockey since before Wayne Gretzky was in peewees and you got disgusted with the Broadstreet Bullies. Some of have watched since and enjoy the game. If you don't like it, go watch figure skating or your steroid popping heroes in MLB, as I recall you referencing that as something you enjoy. No one said you had to jump in on this conversation...

Hey Yukon, if hockey offends you or sports in general, then the remedy for you is the get a big bag of cheeses and close your blinds on your windows and watch some porn.

You have no right telling me to shut the hell up on a sport I love.
You are a rude dude.

See the title of the thread? It is obvious what is talked about in it, so if you don't want to talk about it, don't go into the thread. Simple, isn't it? Oh, one more thing...

Knock it off. You have no right to tell others to "shut the hell up" in a thread that you have "no interest" in. The topic here is hockey, not bashing other members because they enjoy talking about it.
