Anyway, when Hillary was appointed Secretary of State, conservatives were positively salivating with ghoulish delight, claiming that Bill Clinton will try to steal the spotlight from Hillary and that his shenanigans will be a great embarrassment to both Hillary and Obama.

At least so far, the conservative ghouls have been disappointed. Bill Clinton has proved to be a great asset to Obama administration.

Trying to steal the spotlight? He did so with ease. Hillary has been made into an ineffective errand girl.

Although it was lost in translation the phrase Freudian Slip comes to mind.

Perhaps next time whoever put this little charade on will not be so cheap and hire an interpreter that speaks English.
Then we can look for a republican with comprehension skills. I'm betting the interpreter is easier to find.

If someone posed a question at me, implying that I was my husband's puppet speaker, I'd have gone off ten kinds of snaky sideways. No way, regardless of my station, would I be able to show the kind of restraint she did at hearing, yet again, that everyone thinks she is just a mouthpiece for Bill.

I think Ole Hillary should start realizing that without Bill she'd be nuthin'.

Wow... you really are out there Joey.

That is the official party line of the extreme right, EagleSmack. Read the articles on the subject by John Bolton and other right wing politicians. Their claim is that Clinton sold out USA, sold it down the river to North Korea in return for the release of hostages.

Instead of parroting the official far right party line (as you usually do) I was somewhat surprised to see you claiming that Clinton did something good (I bet that is a first, you saying anything good about Bill Clinton). Granted, that was just to badmouth, trash Hillary, so it is understandable. All the same it was surprising.

That's bull**** and you know it. He didn't run for office alone. He ran with his wife at his side. She was part of his campaign as surely as Michelle Obama was part of the last one, and Laura Bush the ones before. Those men don't stand alone. He got where he is in part thanks to her. His involvement in politics was her involvement. It all goes hand in hand. She's earned her place in politics.

Exactly EagleSmack, you have suddenly discovered that Bill Clinton is capable of doing good things, just so you could badmouth, trash Hillary.

Far right hates Hillary with a passion. You people (far right) did all they could to make sure that Hillary did not get the nomination, you people thought that Obama would be an easy candidate to beat, a piece of cake. Well, you got your wish; Hillary did not get the nomination.

But then your worst nightmare came to life. Rather than Joan of Ark becoming the President (we all know that extreme right considered McCain a figure head only), you got both Obama and Hillary.

Any way, it just show how intensely you hate Hillary (and not only you, but most of far right). You would even sink as low as conceding that Bill can do something good, just so you can badmouth trash Hillary.

Without the Hillary family money, where would Billy have been?

Perhaps you make a good point, perhaps you don't. With ordinary people, Hillary's money would be a big asset, but with Bill we are talking Rhodes scholar, add that to the gift of the gab and I think Bill would have survived in pretty well any situation. Hillary just has a big mouth and is a bit of a liar to boot. "Yeah, she disembarked the plane in Iraq under a deluge of missiles" LOFL.:lol:

How can anyone be anywhere near politics without being a bit of a liar?

I guess she is a little upset at Billy C. going to N. Korea and getting things done.

Get things done, EagleSmack? I thought that the official conservative party line was that Clinton capitulated to North Korean dictator, promised him practically everything, practically promised to make USA a satellite nation of North Korea in order to get the release of the two women. At least that is the tone of almost all the conservative columnists (John Bolton and other right wing nuts), talk show hosts etc.

Don’t tell me that you are showing uncommon good sense for a change by disagreeing with the conservative official line. Clinton getting things done? Are you saying something good about Clinton? That is a blasphemy, when did Clinton get anything done? Wash your mouth with soap.

SJP, I get the impression that the only right-wing media you're ever exposed to is extreme right. Do you not ever read centre-right ideas?

I disagree, JLM. No doubt Hillary got her start because she is Bill’s wife. She was able to run for the Senate just because she was Bill’s wife. However, she had a very strong Republican candidate to fight in the Senate election. Vic Lazio was moderate, charming and had charisma.

Hillary was able to demolish him in the debate. After that she took the lead and won a difficult election. Bill did not come into it. Then she almost won the nomination (if she had won the nomination, very likely she would be the president today). Then she was picked to be the Secretary of State, all without Bill’s help.

It is not unusual for a woman to get a start in politics because of her husband, or her father. Indira Gandhi, PM of India was the most prominent one; she got her start because she was daughter of Nehru, an Indian icon. Philippines PM Corazon Akino was another.

However, unless a woman is a skilled, consummate politician in her own right, she would not survive in politics; politics is a difficult and dirty game.

So much as you may not like Hillary she is a skilled, gifted and experienced politician.

You got that right L.W. guess I just pissed Karrie off so I'll address her at the same time by responding that Bill could have accomplished what he did with pretty well any woman. Hillary is highly over rated and full of B.S.:lol::lol: Who knows what he and Monica could have achieved?:lol::lol:

What on earth are you going on (off) about now?

The Democrat Liberals destroyed Hillary. Now Obama made her his concubine.

But then your worst nightmare came to life. Rather than Joan of Ark becoming the President (we all know that extreme right considered McCain a figure head only), you got both Obama and Hillary.

Oh the HORROR!

I will repeat... you are out there.

Oh I forgot about that. Actually Hillary said they had to run off the plane in Bosnia because of incoming sniper fire.

What a laugh that was!

As for the OP, I'd say that it's only common sense that when you're relying on interpretors, you should always be cautious in your response. So much could go wrong. The interpretation could be poor, or even if the interpretation is grammatically correct, there may be a cultural aspect to the question that eludes the receiver. And even if all is correct, as a diplomat one could still disagree and get the same point across, but in a more diplomatic manner.

Sure I do, Machjo. But I don’t have much of a problem with them, so you don’t see me trashing them. It is much more fun to make fun of the far right, with their wacky, extremist ideas. It is not that easy to make fun of something sensible (which are the ideas originating from centre right and centre left), even though I may not agree with them.

After all, which scientist is more fun to ridicule, a Nobel Prize winner, or a global warming denier?

Indeed I am, EagleSmack (in your opinion). I didn’t think I would see a day when a conservative will admit to Bill having achieved something good just so he could trash another Democrat. To admit that Bill did something good is sinking pretty low, for a conservative. But I suppose miracles do happen, from time to time.
