My best guess? Y'all should quit frowning on things and pass some laws.
What kind of laws should we all pass about Cell Phone use & Tasers in the schools in Tennessee? Sounds like the same teacher was punched in the face by another student in the same school two months ago for confiscating a cell phone during a test.

None. Y'all should leave that to Tennessee. And pass laws for Canada. Instead of frowning on things.

Laws like. . . in Maryland you can carry any length knife you want. Three things are forbidden: spring blades, double edges, and carrying with criminal intent.

See? Direct. Specific. Tested in the courts. You can smile or frown as much as you like.

I disagree. I'd argue that all the people represented by that ever-growing acronym 2SLGBTQwhatever, are different genders, but I suppose it could depend on how one defines gender. According to Wikipedia, "Gender includes the social, psychological, cultural and behavioral aspects of being a man, woman, or other gender identity." Thus heterosexuals, homosexuals, bisexuals, transsexuals, etc., are all different genders.
Oh well then, if Wikipedia says so....
That's the one that matters.
No, it isn't. Just because someone claims to be a dragon it doesn't make them a dragon.

Define criminal intent.

You had mentioned both states in Post #103, and I was trying to walk and chew gum and rub belly and pat head, so my mistake.

Pepper spraying a teacher by a student over a cell phone (in Tennessee), not for self-defence, in your opinion, would that be intent to commit a crime? Apparently, this student is at least 18 years of age or they wouldn’t be able to legally possess pepper spray in that state.

OK, I'll start straight, and give you fair warning when I'm going to go snarky.

Possession of pepper spray is legal in all 50 states for adults (18 and older). Using pepper spray must be done in self defense. Because it is not "deadly force," the "reasonable fear of imminent death or serious bodily harm" standard does not apply. Using pepper spray without a valid self-defense purpose is a low-grade felony in Maryland, up to three years and $1000. I presume Tennessee is about the same, the grade of the crime may vary.

So, what does this prove? I'll tell you. I proves that in a country of 330 million people you don't live in, a young adult student pepper-sprayed a teacher.

Snark commencing.

Maybe the teacher was grooming her.

At least she didn't shoot up a couple of classrooms while 376 cops stood around outside having donuts.

End of snark.

But seriously, what greater point, if any, are you trying to prove with an isolated incident of fairly low-level violence 2500 km away from you in another country?

Well, it was found on a Canadian News Site (out’a Toronto), and though I had no idea what the ultimate outcome would be (different country, different laws, different rules….just different) I was curious as to the guesses about the outcome…knowing that the outcome would eventually hit the news cycle.

Who would be closest to correct with what guess? Who would be furthest away with what guess? Some guesses might be far fetched and borderline hilarious…& someone out of left field (definitely not me) might be bang on.

It was the curiosity factor I guess, and always looking for a giggle, and discussion of the contrast between the rules and laws between the two countries and the two cultures. Figured it would be interesting.

I thought y'all had it as an article of faith that TO ain't "real Canada."

I imagine she'll be arrested and, if she has no record, probably get probation. Maybe a couple of weeks in the county jail.

I do have some questions about the veracity of the Toronto Sun. This was, after all, the paper that reported that a kid was arrested for saying there were only two genders, when in point of fact he was arrested for trespassing.
