The roads are for everyone. The police use them, the firemen use them, ambulances use them. All kinds od delivery people use them. Not driving is no justification not to pay for road maintenance.

Roads are part of a functioning society just as public transit is. Toronto could not function without the TTC, and our inability to keep up with necessary infrastructure upgrades is impeding us.

Even if everyone could afford a car, it would be physically impossible for everyone to drive to work downtown. We don't have the capacity on the roads.

He can't be that boring, It's all you and Ruff talk about.........and Harper....

Weird. The guy who likes talking about politics seems to talk about his mayor and prime minister a lot.

Even in BC. In fact all democracies work that way

In BC the taxpayers foot the bulk of the bill even if they never use the facilities. Much like public transport.

Fortunately, the government doesn't exist just to cater to your needs.

It is pretty ****ty to transfer the tax burden from a wider group like all drivers, to just people who use services like rec centers. The clients of the rec centers are disproportionately lower income people with greater needs. They are one of the few places that young families can get care and engaging activities for their kids at a reasonable price. They are places that marginalized adults can get engaged in the community.

Ain't socialism grand.

I can tolerate anything using the highway and road except those damn
bicycles

That's why we should be paying to build bike lanes. In the long run they are a good investment, reduce the use of fossil fuels and reduce the cost of paying for expensive heart bypasses.

I don't get the people who always get mad about bikes being in their way, and also oppose bike lanes. Bike lanes exist to get bikes out of the way of cars. It isn't like not having bike lanes prevents bikes from using the road, it just makes everyone happier when they do.

As they should. If it benefits everybody then everybody should pay. Do you have a problem with that idea or do you believe that people that don't ride a bus don't benefit from having a transit system?

No, not me. I would not have started another Ford thread or added to all of the others one if this one had not been started. I haven't watched this latest video and don't intend to.

And he, or at least the constant drone about him on TV or radio is boring.

Mind you if I lived in Toronto I would be interested in to what exactly he's saying during his hypocritical outbursts on taxes.........

Rob Ford calls outrageous video rant ‘a minor setback’ as former ally calls him a ‘coward’ and tax-raiser

He voted against the budget approved by the executive committee that would raise taxes by 1.75% this year, as he had been pushing for. He said he wanted it to include a reduction in the land transfer tax, but instead the committee voted to increase the city’s reliance on the tax to fund programs by budgeting for more revenue than staff expect.

Once a provincially mandated tax shift policy is incorporated, the average homeowner will feel a tax increase of 2.23% under this proposal, or a $56 hike on a $499,521 home.

It now goes to city council for consideration.

Councillor Denzil Minnan-Wong, a former ally of Ford’s who is mulling a mayoral run, delivered a scathing speech about the mayor Wednesday afternoon, calling the mayor a “coward.”

“He raised taxes,” Minnan-wong said, referring to the 0.5% levy for the Scarborough subway that Ford lobbied for.

Minnan-Wong said the mayor, who just delivered his own speech decrying city staff’s recommendation of a 3.21% property tax increase, was being “unfair” and “untruthful.”

If this really is from this week, I honestly hope that he gets help soon. He clearly has a problem that he can't handle on his own.

There is still more than enough time for him to check into rehab for a few months and come back in time for the election(if he so chooses).
Rehab is so often used by well known people after they are caught doing disgusting things. I guess they feel people or the law will forgive anything if they pretend to want help in the form of rehab.

The man is a huge embarrassment not just to Toronto but to all of Canada.

But,he said he was sorry, doesn't that make it all go away ? Really,I don't give a flying fig about TO, but I have absolutely no respect for liars, especially those in public office.

No worries folks, Ford just made a statement that he had a minor set back- perhaps he can make it three months before the next one!

He's Rob Ford, his dad was rich and powerful and he's used that wealth and those connections to build an even more powerful base, why should he care about reality or what other people think.

He's entitled, if he wants to parody cultural minorities, it's their problem if they take offence, those minorities are there to be used after all in the world of enpowered Rob Ford. If he wants to drink and do crack that's his right, he's Rob Ford after all and none of the rules that apply to the rest of us attach to him.

Who cares what impact this may have on the city and the country as a whole as one of the most recognised Canadian figures makes us look collectively like idiots, as long as Rob Ford gets to continue in his denial.

Rob Ford Swears Off Alcohol Again, Denies Jamaican Patois Rant Was Offensive

There's something seriously wrong with a country that can't find a way to more effectively marginalize such a destructive figure that reduces the quality of all our lives by constantly trying to pull us down to his level. Ford constantly claims he's just an average guy who makes a mistake every now and then.

I only know of one prominent Canadian politicians with his privilege and responsibility who treats it with such contempt. He's extraordinary, but in a really dysfunctional way. This isn't the image we want to set and certainly not follow on an individual or community basis.

Whether or not Ford ever accepts his deep psychological issues is no longer important, what matters now is finding the best way to stop then repair the damage he's done to Toronto and this country as a whole.

I know what you mean, but it would be one hell of a lot better than his current plan.
