Gingrich: Putin press conference was 'most serious mistake' of Trump's presidency

Weasel!

The comments from the former House speaker came after the U.S. president challenged his own intelligence community's conclusion that Moscow interfered in the 2016 election during a joint news conference with Putin.

oh yeah?

One of the few people in government who has acted with any kind of courage and integrity in what was an obvious trap set by CNN, NYT and Co.; Mueller; and the American Intelligence Establishment for Trump was Rand Paul.

He almost alone has come to the defense of Trump amidst the barking hysteria that has characterised the opposition to the trip. He has correctly defined Trump Nato/UK/ Putin summits as a glowing success. It bolstered European investment in it own security. It proposed a vibrant sustainable nationalism (through a real Brexit) in the light of an EU being torn asunder under intense economic, migratory, nationalistic, cultural, religious tensions.

Trump stressed Europe's need diversify its energy sources to prevent dependence of Russian gas and potential influence. He approached Russia with a working platform to resolve the issues related to the flash points of the Ukraine and Syria and develop a less adversarial relationship. It likely involved some informal proposals to recognize the Russian annexation of Crimea (a historical and cultural fact); to stop the continued growth of NATO into former Soviet republics which is viewed by Russians as encirclement and isolation and which fans the flames of xenophobia and tribalism; to end sanctions.

That's all positive. The vicious, disingenuous screeching reaction to Trump's iniatives comes from the old Cold Warriors of the Intelligence/Defense Establishment who are desperately in need of an Enemy and have deemed Russia, with something like 10% of the military budget of NATO; with no ideological maxims; with no global or Western territorial aspirations, as such. This in place of the far more likely potential enemy in China, to whom the West has become industrially and financially dependent, but which does have vast territorial ambitions in the South China Sea and all of Asia.

Trump's rhetorical style is rambling, speculative, unanchored and unguided which leaves him open to the targeted attack that we've seen over the last 2 days. All by the forces of the old Pax Americana which is an imperial construct that has existed since Wilson post WW1, and with avengeance since WW2. That is collapsing now, done in by its own failure and hypocrisy in its icons of Multilateral Free Trade; a borderless globe with free movement of people, product, services, capital; an amoral order marked by relativism, radical individualism, atheistic humanism.

The truth is that Russia's 'meddling' involves little more than the same tactics that America has employed in at least 100 foreign elections since 1945. Those that have not actually involved the imposition of tin horn dictators or military cliques with their death squads and dungeons in places like Iran, Guatemala, Viet Nam, Indonesia, Chile, Argentina, Iraq, Lybia and more.

Trump's trip had nothing to do with disparaging the 'heroes' of the Intelligence Services. It had everything to do with creating a post Cold War order that is NOT built on the free movement of capital OVER the prosperity and equitable distribution of wealth in nation states. Trump is in fact beseiged by traitors (to the American Constitution and American people), who are in full scale rebellion against a viable and peaceful world order. It was a brave and principled set of proposals by President Trump.

I would not be in the least bit surprised that Trump and Putin made a trade .... Russia keeps Crimea and Israel keeps the Golan Heights in Syria. Trump is attempting to win his Nobel Peace Prize with a Middle East peace agreement and he intends to impose it on the Palestinians.

Trump is bad-mouthing Europe because they are refusing to walk away from the Iran Nuclear deal. It is pretty hard to say that America leads the free world when Europe refuses to go along with such a high stakes game against Iran.

Trump's protectionism could derail Brexit and it's pushed the EU to pursue more aggressive trade agreements with Japan and China. I like free trade and it would appear other countries do too even more than before.

I will tell you that Ma & Pa Disenfranchized America that put Trump into power couldn't give a flying fukc about the Golan Heights, Palestinians or Israel or any of the other minutae from the Middle East and it is as far from their reality as the dark side of the Moon. If that's the trade that was made, it is even more bizarrely stupid and unpolitic as selling out for no good reason.

The Israelis are far and away capable of hanging on to the Golan Heights with zero American help, and they periodically have done so since 1967.

One sick part of me hopes Trump wins another term. It will put pressure on Canadian protectionist tendencies and help to promote more trade and closer ties between Canada, the EU, Japan, and other states around the world.

TDS is controlling most of the media.

And Newt Gingrich, apparently.

So many prog heads exploding today. Tee-hee.

You know, someone else said to me the other day that the Trump cult don't care what Trump does to America and the world, so long as it pisses off the Left. And it sure seems to be true.

I've voted Conservative in every election in my life. I tried to find something positive in Trump's character when he emerged as a main contender, and failed. Everything I looked into pointed to a man so utterly, irredeemably corrupt and lacking in every character trait of man that I am astonished at how many people seem to admire him. A failed real estate sales guy, lifelong fornicator, adulterer and hedonist, living on daddy's money and the notoriety he obtained from a 'reality' show where his every word was written for him has convinced half of America he's a great, shrewd businessman, despite a steady series of complete lies about his alleged accomplishments.

And now, having done precisely what Putin has wanted, setting Americans against each other, diminishing respect for America, setting NATO at one another's throats, he calls his lap dog in for a private, personal meeting, no doubt with instructions on what he wants him to do next, and the Trump cult laps it up with eager eyes and slack jaws.

You are a contemptible person, just like your hero.

I am also a Centrist Conservative and I refuse to be pulled into the extremist margins where white supremists marching in torchlight parades brandishing semi-automstic weapons is some sort of moral equivalence to the mish-mosh of NAACP and Baptist churchy types who oppose them.

I guess that unless I'm willing to get four-square behind things like concentration camps for immigrants, I'm not a "real" 21st century Conservative.

Trump exploits the extremes. It's a gigantic reality show, apparently, except that the stakes are far more deadly dangerous than the public seems to understand.
