OTTAWA — Thomas Mulcair was labelled an anti-trade, anti-business extremist Wednesday for threatening to rip up a controversial investment treaty with China.

But the NDP leader did not back down. Indeed, he ratcheted up the rhetoric against the Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Act, vowing that an NDP government would not be bound to honour a treaty ratified by the Harper government.

“Let me be very clear,” Mulcair told the House of Commons.

“The Conservatives will not tie the hands of the NDP. We will revoke this agreement if it is not in the best interests of Canadians.”

Prime Minister Stephen Harper said the treaty is the product of almost 20 years of negotiations, designed to give Canadian investors in China the same protection that Chinese investors have in Canada. He ridiculed Mulcair’s threat to abrogate the deal.

These are the actions of a rookie political party that has no clue... The upside here is that the more that the dippers are encouraged to open their uninformed yaps, the more harm they will do to themselves in the short, medium and long terms.

It's too bad really, they were handed a bona fide opportunity to turn themselves into a real and legitimate party (over much time I'm sure), but the lunatic rantings and ravings simply work to remind Canadians that they were simply a convenient protest vote against the Bloc.

I'd wager that after the next election, the dippers will once again be relegated to 'insignificant' status on the Federal scene.

Mulcair, like his predecessor, is nothing more than a freak-show at a traveling carnival... No substance to any of his (their) statements/demands, just a burning desire to get some kind of media coverage to satisfy their narcissistic urges.

It's about time we had an economic nationalist back in government. Even with the disastrous failure of Free Trade... we still have that drooling imbecile Harper.. a lackey and running dog of the Global Investment organism.. frothing at the mouth.

Its not that surprising. Harper was called an extremist when he was in opposition and still is fairly often. He proved to be pretty moderate once put in office, as most are. Same is likely the case here. Mulcair is no extremist. If you want extremists look at the Marxist-Leninists or Christian Heritage parties.

Do we have the information on the nitty gritty of this trade deal- and a 15 yeal cancellation clause. Rather odd is it not.

Economic nationalism ain't coming back any time soon cuz we got no manufacturing capacity and atheric markets virtual distances away. "The good times have all gone I'm bound for goin home". That just came to me.
We wanted free trade we got free trade it wasn't free that was the theme of national protest at the time. It's at least twenty years too late to rebuild national capacity, they say. National mobilization of that scope would take a wartime effort. Controlled crisis escalation can half the rebuild time, maybe, but we need a superheated workforce to proceed. War is the traditional catalyst. Where can we find one of those? I know let's invade Syria. Of course we will have to borrow billions of carbon credits from the globalists.
