Yup....Most of us are reasonably tolerant of those who want to exclude or are outright against sharing our lifestyle, knowing there are always humans afflicted with " dogs in the manger " syndrome. However, it only goes so far and the more rational members of our country come out to balance things off.

Does it not wear you out somewhat hoping to find the worst in people and countries??

You misinterpreted "dog in the manger." The image is of a dog lying in a manger snarling and snapping at horses or sheep or cows who want to eat the hay. The key is that the dog, purely out of cussedness, is denying the other animals what is of no value to the dog.

The reason I call it a misinterpretation is that the Canadian way of life is of value to the Canadians who want to deny it to others. The usual metaphor is "pulling up the ladder," the image being that having risen to a "higher" or better level, one wants to keep others from doing so.

Wrong......The phrase comes from one of Aesop's fables, about a dog lying in a manger full of hay. When an ox tries to eat some hay, the dog bites him, despite the fact that the hay is of no use to the dog. The American Heritage® New Dictionary of Cultural Literacy, Third Edition.

So i fits my description of those against letting immigrants in, particularly since the government will sort through them and decide which are legitimate or not.

That's what I just said. The key is that the hay is of no value to the dog.

Presumably the Canadian way of life is of value to the ones who want to refuse immigrants and refugees.

Mostly because I'm an Indian. Immigration f*cked our way of life but good.

But I didn't say I feel that, I said that is the presumptive motivation of the anti-immigrant folk.
Yes I see your point. However, that does not happen to be the case here. These are people thinking they are saving our way of life but in my opinion, immigrants are the basis of our country.

If it were our Indians who were the objectors, yes I would understand considering we have and are still mucking up our first nations.

Yup, let's save our way of mindless consumerism, our corrupt government, our back asswards religions, our destruction of our life support system. Europeans invaded and raped (are still raping) this country because they do not value it except as a commodity. They feel no connection, no empathy, no sympathy for the life that dwells upon this land. They only care about exploitation, greed and profit.

Northern Ontario,
No, you are the one being an asshole.
If you didn't read it in Facebook......it ain't true....

Whoa LOL.....It is an American who feels the majority of Canadians want immigrants deported........Figures since the majority of immigrants entering Canada by the back door are those who were accepted then rejected by the US.
You need to learn to read lady,
That's not what Cliffy was complaining about.....

Thats everyone. Its self justification. You are as guilty of it as anyone
Just what am I justifying to my self?? Yes I believe immigration is good for a country. and I know why I feel this way. There are some Canadians who do not feel that way. They have their reasons just as I have mine. Canadians as a whole are not homophobes, racist or sexist is simply stating a fact.
