The problem is that, as much of an arsehole as Trump is, he is better than the 2016 Democratic alternative...........and better than anyone yet offered for 2020.
The US used to elect great men to the office on occasion (Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt are two good examples), and usually competent good men otherwise............with a few complete flops (Woodrow Wilson, Obama)
We have elected nothing but mediocres since Sir John A., with the plausible exception of Wilfred Laurier. Other wise.....well. It is bad when Stephen Harper was the best PM since Dief the Chief.
