And I've spent a bit of time in the U.S. from Washington and California to Montana and Colorado including lots of time in Nevada and have found them exactly as your describe as well as helpful and friendly.
And during all the time I've spent in the U.S. I've NEVER seen a single American shooting at anyone. I think you may be making a "mountain out of a molehill".

Producers of Will Ferrell’s Christmas movie Elf have threatened a firearms retailer with legal action for using the actor's character in promotional flyers without permission.
A picture of Ferrell as Buddy in the 2003 Christmas comedy was used on posters promoting a holiday offer for a firearms bundle, which featured a speech bubble from the rejoicing elf that read, "Son of a nutcracker That's a good deal!!!"
Producers behind the movie claim they did not give permission for the image to be used and their lawyers have fired off a cease and desist letter to bosses of the gun company, asking them to take down the posters.
According to TMZ.com, the advert was withdrawn immediately.

Well first day in Florida and there were a mere 3 shootings around here today. It will get worse, with no jobs and lots of guns floating about, crime will once again rise.
I see the 99% of American's got screwed again. I just do not understand why they still vote the way the !% tells them how they should. And how amazing, almost immediately the Iraq war became active again with feet on the ground. No doubt there will be many more places to invade, buoy up and otherwise interfere with local politics.
The infirm at Walmart's in their wheelchairs will be greeting the public and the baggers in Public's and other grocery stores will become all adults again. The youngsters will go , not enough jobs left after those who need the extra money for health care and work for less....right!!
Well, I foresee a return to hard times for the average American, and the 1% will continue to ravish the environment and the majority of the taxpayers. The rights of minorities and women are already eroded in the voting system in Texas.
What astonishes me, is the average non-wealthy American, will donate to those poorer than themselves. Astounding how the rich 1% can brainwash those same 99% into believing their taxes should be spent keeping the giant corporations and the rich in the state to which they have become accustomed. What is even more odd is how many of those I speak to are NOT all that pleased with the results. Other than local news, much of what is happening in the rest of the world, unless it is spectacular, is rarely broadcast.

LOL....in spite of what you feel about your guns, most NORMAL Canadians or Americans do not live their daily lives orientated around them. We do not live our lives involved with those who feel the need to keep a gun beside the door or under their pillow. My life down here is so far untouched by the violence. My friends (Who are Americans) do not feel the need to be armed to the teeth, nor do we advertise our distrust of them in the wrong hands.
It seems to me that not feeling that need to fear, does protect us. We, who do not see a robber, rapist, murderer or thief around very corner are rarely threatened by them.
It is mostly the ultra Conservatists, ie Republicans who if fortunate enough to have a decent job look down at those on the lower social scale, can even thing the them dead beats all the while denying them the wherewithal to earn a decent living, have decent health care, or a decent education. And God Forbid, a poor country suddenly discovers or becomes decently well off through oil or another fortunate event, feel they should be "protected" from a decent life. Who invades for profit other than the US under Republicans??
When a country wishes to change it's government to another, why not leave them to it?? America got to choose without interference so why deny others the same right??
