Anyway, it's not something I or anyone I know would ever want to hunt even though populations are stable.

Although most of the world's 19 populations have returned to healthy numbers, there are differences between them. Some are stable, some seem to be increasing, and some are decreasing due to various pressures.
I have no problem with the fur as long as you keep it alive while you shear it. Sheep don't seem to pose a problem.
