Canadian Broadcasting Corp.
I put myself through school working for a network television station and am familiar with broadcast news regulations and restrictions and programming, plus the additional responsibility of all broadcasting stations whether television or radio, they must inform the public, provide adequate content so all ages are included and restrict the "over the top" kind of programming which would be offensive to many. The public can pay for those private channels broadcasts if they want X-rated material.
So...public broadcasting out of private networks isn't such a bad thing and I know they fulfill their obligations because the public are always on their case checking them out (which is a good thing).
But that's not the CBC. I think if the government is going to be the "big daddy" of a broadcast network both television and radio, it is going to control what goes out there to the people - that it is in line with what the government wish to impart....political or educational or medical or otherwise. They do promote young artists and musicians and speakers, etc. so they have that function in expanding the talent in Canada...but...but..but...
I dislike the idea of any government have any control over the broadcasting station. They can offer regulations .... but no control. The CBC is the antitheses of all I hate about socialism...that the people are getting an agreed upon "view" of things.
I grant that their entertainment programming is well done, but rather safe and similar. Their news is safe and similar as well and I have never been really angry with the CBC, but it my own mind, no government should have the ultimate "say" in broadcasting.
It is way too socialist....or dictatorial.... whatever bad thing. Broadcasting should be free....should be biased if they want as long as there are choices for other biased networks to have their say as well. The CBC even fought to have competition which they deemed not in keeping with their own message.
It is why I screamed for Canada to have Fox...who are biased...but offer an alternative to CNN which seemed like they spoke for the U.S. people (which they don't). People don't have much choice in Canada...perhaps they don't want choice I don't know....but my choice is to be able to "choose"....
Government is in our bedrooms, our manner of speaking, which languages we speak, and now they want into our heads too?
No way!
