I enjoy CBC, both radio and TV. Great Canadian content with some really interesting shows.

The CBC is fine....if people want that sort of thing they can pay for it through advertising like everyone.

At least it isn't funded by the government.

That's the best they could do? There about 5 million articles at CBC and they have an issue with 6 that didn't simply offer the neocon media-is-the-problem version of the truth?

Maybe if the government funded them, they could do better?

Okay, I read the first two pieces at the site claiming to document CBC bias. The first was all about the Fraser Institute's view, a well known right-wing think tank that's never liked the CBC just on principle. What would expect from them? The other seems to consist mostly of a complaint that certain information didn't appear early enough in a report. Whaddya think, reporters write so that only the first half of a piece is serious and the second half is filler and fluff? If you want a whole story, read the whole piece.

After that I couldn't take J. Smith, whoever that is, very seriously. Recall I said I've never seen a "convincing" demonstration? That isn't it either.

Canadian Broadcasting Corp.

I put myself through school working for a network television station and am familiar with broadcast news regulations and restrictions and programming, plus the additional responsibility of all broadcasting stations whether television or radio, they must inform the public, provide adequate content so all ages are included and restrict the "over the top" kind of programming which would be offensive to many. The public can pay for those private channels broadcasts if they want X-rated material.

So...public broadcasting out of private networks isn't such a bad thing and I know they fulfill their obligations because the public are always on their case checking them out (which is a good thing).

But that's not the CBC. I think if the government is going to be the "big daddy" of a broadcast network both television and radio, it is going to control what goes out there to the people - that it is in line with what the government wish to impart....political or educational or medical or otherwise. They do promote young artists and musicians and speakers, etc. so they have that function in expanding the talent in Canada...but...but..but...

I dislike the idea of any government have any control over the broadcasting station. They can offer regulations .... but no control. The CBC is the antitheses of all I hate about socialism...that the people are getting an agreed upon "view" of things.

I grant that their entertainment programming is well done, but rather safe and similar. Their news is safe and similar as well and I have never been really angry with the CBC, but it my own mind, no government should have the ultimate "say" in broadcasting.

It is way too socialist....or dictatorial.... whatever bad thing. Broadcasting should be free....should be biased if they want as long as there are choices for other biased networks to have their say as well. The CBC even fought to have competition which they deemed not in keeping with their own message.

It is why I screamed for Canada to have Fox...who are biased...but offer an alternative to CNN which seemed like they spoke for the U.S. people (which they don't). People don't have much choice in Canada...perhaps they don't want choice I don't know....but my choice is to be able to "choose"....

Government is in our bedrooms, our manner of speaking, which languages we speak, and now they want into our heads too?

No way!

December 2002 - Passionate Eye. In it they asked tough questions about "the case" for war and potential fallout. This kind of journalism did not exist in the US, where it was treasonous to envision anything but war and Iraqi tickertape parades.

You could not be more wrong. That is why I think Canadians are way too isolated in their opinions of the U.S. - even though bombarded with tons of U.S. entertainment programming...you have little access to choice because the network programming is selected for your consumption and which networks are allowed.

I learned what government can do when it "takes over" a group of people and makes expectant victims of them....I am talking about the black people in the U.S.

Although they are free to work and educate and go about their lives, they are still in bondage because the government has taken over their victim-hood and assured them they are not capable of become independent without government sanction.

It is frightening to watch and one of the things I made a study of when I was in university .... Many black writers speak of it now and one of them is John McWhorter - if you ever have some time to read about what I have only touched upon.

Government should do its job for the people and then back out....
They never did with the blacks here and the people are still afraid to function as independent citizens. Of course there is also a "fear industry" sprung up too with Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, all the other Reverends who live off this victimhood...the ACLU is another group..... you have to live among the people to know.

My best friend got me interested when we went to school together - she is black and broke not only out of the black bondage but out of the female-hood bondage too.... she is now a local politician, has a degree, and is one of the smartest women I have ever met.

She takes it upon herself to educate me and where that fine line of government management should be drawn. I will be forever grateful to her, because I always thought the government was helping .... they weren't.... we have to do it on our own....even if it hurts.

The number of young black men and women who are in jails demonstrate how ineffective government's intervention has been.
They forgot about how important families are....mothers and father...and great education....and in their frustration they drop out of schools and get into gangs and drugs because that gives them a "family" and "makes them feel good".... Poor choice? Of course - nobody told them any different..

Devided we fall, united we stand, if you want to change things you need to bond together as soon as you do you begin to govern, there is no escape from government. You can have bad government or you can have good government but you cannot have no government.
