All I need to do is stick a shovel in the ground and turn the earth and I'll find these.

And think you'll find that, as the name implies, the common earthworm is found all over the UK.

The earthworm in North America, like a third of that continent's worms, was introduced there by incomers, mainly by European settlers, in the 18th Century. So this creature is a very recent arrival on your shores.

A Brit found a worm... congratulations.

A giant earthworm.

A worm... again, congratulations.

If you ever come to the states and sit on the grass long enough they'll come popping up all around you. You'll be a national hero when you go back to your rainy island.

Yes, an earthworm which are found all over....wait....you guessed it, earth.

Lumbricus terrestris is the largest species of earthworm throughout Europe, and the giant ones just discovered on Rum are the largest Lumbricus terrestris ever found in the UK.

Lumbricus terrestris in North America (or nightcrawlers and dew worms as you rather mysteriously call them) were introduced there by European settlers in the 18th century.

Northern Ontario,
Our Opie (BIG barn cat) is well fed on birds, mice and snakes. Maybe I'll snap a pic of him and become the next big thing in the UK.
That brought back memories back on the farm when I was young and our cat was scratching at the door to come in and my sister freaked out when he came in with one of them small manure pile red colored garter snakes his mouth firmly clamped behind the snake's head ...
Can't recall what happened afterwards......funny how something brings back a long lost memory......
