There was an alliance and Germany was bound to defend its ally
just like the deal between Britain and its allies and the fight was on.
Germany did not start WWI they just paid for it in the long run.

You need to study a little history.

Austria-Hungary wanted to invade Serbia.

They feared the Russians.

They went to the Kaiser asking for support.

The Kaiser told him he would back them no matter what. THAT makes him guilty.

Austria Hungary issues a completely unacceptable ultimatum to Serbia, then invades.

Russia mobilizes to aid her ally Serbia.

Here is where it gets complicated...........France and Russia are allies. Germany fears modern France, but not slow Russia. To avoid a two front war, the German Schlieffen Plan calls for Germany to invade FRANCE if Russia mobilizes against her........the idea is crush France quickly, then turn to face the Russians.

Germany invades France through the lowlands, despite being warned by Great Britain to stay out.

Great Britain moves to defend her allies.

YES, Germany was at fault.

No, you didn't. Bizarre utterances don't hit a nerve with me. I just correct them.

The British and Canadian royals are member of the House of Windsor.

The British and Canadian Head of State is Elizabeth Windsor, not Elizabeth Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.

Laughing here... you know what I'm talking about don't you.

House of Windsor... formerly the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. Had to change the name because nobody wanted to feel like they are being ruled by a German family in WWI... which they are.

Just because a guy changes his Polish name to O'Brien doesn't make him Irish.

Kitchener was an idiot, as was most of the British command.

Which changes nothing. Great Britain did not start the war. The Kaiser's idiotic "blank cheque" to Austria Hungary was the catalyst.

Yes they were idiots and they had the option of staying out. Most thought they would til the last minute. They should have, France should have too. The war accomplished nothing. If the Germans, Austro-Hungarians and Russians wanted to waste their time, resources and men in the Balkans fine, but we should not have gotten involved.

A manufactured name to appease the Brits during WW1. If not for that she would still have the Saxe Coburg name. You can call them Windsor all you want, they are still descended from a German line.

Just because a guy changes his Polish name to O'Brien doesn't make him Irish.

Indeed. I was under the impression that my grandfather was descended from Irish as his name was Riley. Turns out his parents changed their name when they got here shortly before WW1 to fit in a bit easier. They were German.

Good Lord man. Even us lowly colonists know they changed their names.

Yes indeed!

Germans!

So your family is just like the British Monarchy... German!

They're also descended from Scots and Greeks. To say that they are German is pushing it a bit.

It's a bit like somebody saying that I'm Irish just because one of my great-grandparents was Irish. I'm not Irish. I'm genetically one-eighth Irish but I'm still English.

I still don't get the where the myth that the Queen and the royals are German came from. The Queen was born in England to a Scottish mother.
