When will that begin, coldstream? All the people who argued that gay marriage will destroy traditional marriage have been shown to be completely wrong, so. . .

It's already begun (the collapse of Western Civilization).. and there will be no part of it left unscathed.. economy, culture, govenance, civil peace, science & technology, education.

The glue that holds civilizations together is faith, family, procreative vitality, institutional integrity to its founding principles. All of those have been layed waste by the New Age Culture, with its antithetical babble of relativism and gratification, that has taken over the West with breathtaking speed in the the last 45 years.

A civilization is defined by its written constitutions, laws, testaments, treaties defining a comprehensive moral vision of the society . None can survive on the nonsense and sophistry that now dominates the public ethos and conversance. That will utterly undermine and fragment all of its sustaining structures from below.

"Layed?" "Conversance?" Well, if one of the hallmarks of western civilization was literacy, I'd have to agree it's circling the drain.

Sounds just like what we need. A revolution. Hopefully this collapse will stop the spreading of fiction as fact and lay the way forward to enlightened thinking and maybe, we will be able to put the dark ages and religion behind us.

I was kinda thinking that it would be a good thing to see this so call civilization go the way of the Dodo and the dinosaur. There has never been a more demeaning and destructive force on the planet: environmental degradation, species extinctions, wars, weapons of mass destruction, a total disregard for life and human dignity... Good riddance.

Whatever gave you the idea that the end of this civilization meant the end of life? It may mean the beginning of a better world where there is honour, respect and integrity. I find it rather sad that people think this "civilization" is the pinnacle of human evolution.

You can call cow a horse but it is still a cow. A marriage is between a man and a woman. If the homosexuals want to call their union a marriage let them, it's still not a marriage.

Stop that, Walter; I hate agreeing with ya.

what constitutes true marriage???

ask Mrs Betty Bowers, the USA's best Christian!

She'd drive ya queer fer sure.............well, not me........but............yanno..........just sayin.

You know what I mean. Let them marry throughout the whole country. End this once and for all

Save everyone a bunch of money. Right on Eagle. Long as the clergy (bless their little hearts) don't have to perform
the ceremony if'n they don't wanna. Got no dog in this fight.

Long as we have the revolution in a "free speech area". Can't stand the sight of blood.

One of the effects of your brave new world is a fertility rate that is well below replacement level. With the collapse of family life, abortion, contraception and sex now limited in the public perception to self absorbed gratification... without responsibility, certainly without procreation as its intent... we can look to the catastrophic effects of an aging and declining population, with an ever dimishing relative population of young people and cultural vitality. Of course that will not last.. dying civilizations are ripe for invasion... as was Rome. The barbarians are at the Gate.

Your mother should have taught you the criticizing spelling and grammar on forums is very poor Netiquette, bones. You are reflecting a very poor impression of your upbringing. Rather than resorting to rudeness, why don't you try to address the substance of the topic. Only people who have lost all confidence of their intellectual ability to argue the substance of the argument, redirect it to issues of style and to personal aspersions.

Occam's razor

Wow! I have never seen someone have a circle jerk in their own mind like that. He was right about one thing: you cannot just trust you 5 physical senses. We have more than just those 5. His biggest mistake is in assuming there are only two valid views of reality. Natural people, those living in nature, with nature (tribal people living in hunter gatherer societies for example) have both a natural view and divine concept of reality. The problem with this guy's argument stems from a concept of duality: that spirit and matter are separate, that they are opposing points of view.

This is only a concept in our culture and does not exist in most other cultures where there is no separation, no duality. Duality is a fabrication of the ego which is a mental and emotional construct created by an infant that sees the world as a dangerous place. The ego serves its purpose until around puberty when its usefulness ceases to be of benefit. Most tribal peoples throughout the planet had a process for minimizing the ego so that the individual could function as an adult in that society. There is no such process in our culture so the majority of people are still functioning at about an 8 - 12 year old emotional lever.

The other major flaw in his argument is that he assumes his idea of god is the only valid one. To try to prove the existence of this god without defining what a god is is futile to start with and using only the atheist point of view as the only counter point is trying to prove an already forgone conclusion.

As for the OP, using Deuteronomy and Leviticus as proof of god's displeasure is erroneous. Ask any Jew and they will tell you that those two books are Jewish laws, not the word of god. The problem stems from people assuming, incorrectly, that the bible is, in its entirety, the word of god. It is not nor was it ever meant to be. Literalists are the problem, not homosexuals.
