Don't forget though that in Iran, apostacy is punishable by death, and anyone who believes in a post-Muslim religion is automatically classified as an apostate. Baha'is fall into that latter category. The only reason Iran hasn't killed htem all yet is because there are many of them and also a certain fear of international repercussions.

No doubt Israel has its own issues with state-sanctioned discrimination on the basis of religion (converts must report their conversion, immigration is based mostly on religious conviction, and certain religious communities are banned from procelitizing). for those various reasons, it would make sensse for Canada to have friendly relations with Israel but no more, same with Iran, while still criticizing both countries at the UN General Assembly for their respective human rights violations... once we've dealt with our own of course.
