Yes....that is what he 'says". We all know and see daily just how FACTUAL /TRUTHFUL he is.
What we need to know is why he lied.
That is the whole ballgame.
Did he lie because he just lies all the time and lying comes easy to him?
Or did he lie because the white house told him there could be no admitting that anyone talked to the russians? What has to come out is what happened and why it happened.
I should add that the fact of the russian election meddling has already gravely undermined the validity of this presidency. If it os proved that that Trump knowlingly sought out and accepted Russian help that would destroy his administration.
So they are playing for high stakes here.

The west – and particularly the US – have a long history of rigging polls, supporting military coups, channeling funds and spreading political propaganda in other countries.

Covert interventions have been done by many countries over the years and – because they are shrouded in secrecy – it’s impossible to get a comprehensive picture of every instance across the world.
Part of the reason why we know about lots of US operations is that its government is relatively transparent when compared to some others. (‘Relatively’ is the key word here: there is much we may never know about its secret foreign plots, but the release of many historical documents do allow us to shed some light – albeit usually years later).

Brian Ross, a longtime investigative reporter at the network, reported Friday morning during a special report that Flynn had been directed to contact Russian officials by then-candidate Donald Trump during the presidential campaign. When pleading guilty, Flynn admitted to lying about contacts with the Russian ambassador to the U.S. during the presidential transition period, but filings from the office of Special Counsel Robert Mueller did not allege any contacts during the campaign itself, or implicate Mr. Trump directly.
