Federal Carbon Price established at $10 a tonne in 2018, rising to $50 by 2022

Because of Canada's topography, we are a net carbon sink.

Because of our low emissions, anything Canada does will have absolutely NO effect on lowering overall carbon in the atmospher, none, zip!!

Two of the largest emitters are China and the USA. These are two countries that can make some difference.

But China needs energy to look after their population, so they are using a lot of coal, but if we provided them with LNG, we could help China lower its emissions.

Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall tore a strip off Justin Trudeau while frustrated environment ministers walked out on their federal counterpart Monday after the prime minister promised to unilaterally impose a carbon price in those provinces and territories that won't do it themselves. With provincial and territorial ministers gathered for a day of climate-change talks in Montreal, the prime minister kicked off a House of Commons debate on the Paris climate change accord with unexpected news: Ottawa will set — and enforce, if necessary — a minimum price for carbon pollution.

The federal plan sets a "floor price" of $10 a tonne starting in 2018 that increases to $50 a tonne by 2022.
Wall — a longtime opponent of pricing carbon — did not pull his punches.

"The level of disrespect shown by the prime minister and his government today is stunning," he said, accusing Trudeau of reneging on his promises to collaborate with the provinces.

Thank you Brad Wall.

Looks like the only way this government is going to get anything done is to unilaterally impose it. Besides the carbon tax, they are now saying they will do the same thing with healthcare.

... and we have to stay warm in our cold winters, for which we are going to be taxed even more. We also have to travel long distances because our country is thousands of miles long and two hundred miles wide. We are going to be squeezed to death because of our geography. No other government on earth would be stupid enough to penalize their own people for simply subsisting, in such a manner.

Human CO2 is a tiny % of CO2 emissions
“The oceans contain 37,400 billion tons (GT) of suspended carbon, land biomass has 2000-3000 GT. The atpmosphere contains 720 billion tons of CO2 and humans contribute only 6 GT additional load on this balance. The oceans, land and atpmosphere exchange CO2 continuously so the additional load by humans is incredibly small. A small shift in the balance between oceans and air would cause a CO2 much more severe rise than anything we could produce.”

Did it help with climate change and did it reduce any emissions ?

Yup pay the tax and all the increases in consumer goods that come with it .Our standard of living just went down , and You are cheering .

If you tax domestic carbon products but not imported products and up the importing then yes, BC emissions have been cut by not including imported carbon products WITHIN THE "FORMULA".

I buy my gasoline in Blaine Washington which means my WA purchases of fuel are not counted therefore it reflects a reduction in my BC tallied emissions.

IT WORKS!!!

We have one of the highest per capita emissions in the world.

Trudeau made the right moves in this last month. He was able to get a federal price on carbon and also secured a pipeline in his first year when that sorry excuse for a helmet could do neither in 8 years.

You obviously have not been in downtown Vancouver during the rush hour when the air at ground level is a miasma of diesel fumes. You also never seem to take into consideration what the wildfires that burn every summer do to our air - a carbon tax will do nothing to change that .........and if the prognosticators are right, we will see an increase in the number of fires every summer. Good luck with that.

Oh.............and our economy?...................it sucks.
Hey but we are still loading ships full of coal heading for China . I wonder if we get credit for the emissions when it is burned ?

So true, stiffing hapless consumers be a bureaucratic fav for dipping into pockets however when really large consumer nations refuse to play their fund raising game social engineering 'experts' are forced to a detour. China and russia made gazillions off kyoto and don't appear interested in giving back any of their wind fall $$$$s.
The heart of the matter is most govs are cash strapped and this carbon charade presents a nifty mirage style coffer stuffing gambit for them. Same old same old, those that can afford to pay to pollute will whilst those low on the economic totem pole witness another dip in living standards. It's not about arctic ice or ghg reduction but it most certainly is about raising capital n' that's why junior is pushing it so hard.

Don't overlook the fact that if you want people to change fuel consumption habits about the only way to do so it to make it more expensive. The dramatic price increase in oil prices in the 1970 resulted in people driving cars with smaller engines and improving the energy efficiency of their homes. This will probably have a similar effect.

Before going to sign an international agreement in our name, Trudeau shoud have the commitment and the agreement of all the partners in this federation.

Justin was paying some guy in Quebec $2000 per day to greet refugees. For $10, we won't be able to afford to hire a government employee to wave a coffee filter in the air.
