For a good reference on this read the novel "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy. Be prepared to be a bit depressed, if you depress easily.

How the bloody hell can Cannibalism be a myth? Head down to South America and venture into the jungles, locate one of those isolated tribes and tell them you think Canibalism is just a myth.... I'm sure they'd love to educate you on the practice.
