Juan Cole, a University of Michigan Professor of Modern Middle East and South Asian History, agrees that Ahmadinejad's statement should be translated as, "the Imam said that this regime occupying Jerusalem (een rezhim-e eshghalgar-e qods) must [vanish from] the page of time (bayad az safheh-ye ruzgar mahv shavad).[12] According to Cole, "Ahmadinejad did not say he was going to 'wipe Israel off the map' because no such idiom exists in Persian." Instead, "he did say he hoped its regime, i.e., a Jewish-Zionist state occupying Jerusalem, would collapse."

Iranian government sources denied that Ahmadinejad issued any sort of threat. On 20 February 2006, Iran's foreign minister Manouchehr Mottaki told a news conference: "How is it possible to remove a country from the map? He is talking about the regime. We do not recognize legally this regime." [15][16][17]

I believe that you are an apologist for those that wish to destroy Israel - You would welcome the complete and total destruction of Israel along with the slaughter of all Jews in Israel - You made that crystal clear with your nukem statement.

You are a genocidal freak that tries to explain and defend others of like mind - The world is filled with your type that attempt to reintepret what Genocidal Freaks always do - Manage the message - they tell many - well he did not really mean this or that - he really meant this - not that - what sane man would want to perpertrate Genocide - Well many understand what the message is - The complete and total destruction of Israel and all Jews in the Mid East.

Some quotes that I am sure you will like Chamberlain try to whittle away at. But many of us read and remember History -

WHAT IF THE JEWS LOST ANY WAR?

"There are two different approaches in the Arab world: that Israel can be overwhelmed militarily, or that a military victory is impossible. The power struggle between Israel and the Arabs is a long-term historical trial. Victory or defeat are for us questions of existence or annihilation, the outcome of an irreconcilable hatred." Al-Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, July 11, 1986.

When we stopped the Intifada we did not stop the Jihad [Islamic holy war] to establish Palestine with Jerusalem as our capital.... We know only one word: Jihad, Jihad, Jihad.... We are in a conflict with the Zionist movement, the Balfour Declaration, and all imperialist activity...."
Yasser Arafat, in a speech at the Dehaishe refugee camp near Bethlehem, 22 October 1996

The hands of the U.S. are fully stained with the blood of the Palestinians. There is only one possible solution to unrest in the Middle East, namely, the annihilation and destruction of the Zionist state." - Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in a "prayer sermon" at Tehran University addressing hundreds of thousands of Iranians, Dec. 31, 1999

"There is no solution to the conflict in this region except with the disappearance of Israel... And on this last day of the century, I promise Israel that it will see more suicide attacks, for we will write our history with blood." - Hizbollah leader, Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah, at a rally of supporters on December 31, 1999.

“Israel is much smaller than Iran in land mass, and therefore far more vulnerable to nuclear attack.” Former Iranian President Ali Rafsanjani, quoted in Jerusalem Report, March 11, 2002

B.S post... If I was for genocide I would be supporting Israel.. And I don't want any Jews dead, I want Israel to act like human beings, except they're an brutal terrorist organization making live atrocious for the Palestinians and discriminate against Arabs who try to live in Israel..
Stop projecting your racist views on me, it's clear you're blindly supporting Israel because of your hatred for Arabs and in particular Muslims...

I have a substantial number of Muslims working for me and for a number of years. When a Muslim Driver that arrives at our site the rules are strict - A few made comments to my face that they felt I was singling them out because of their color/religion - I always wait at least 3 months to 6 months - I then ask them the question again. But I always ask - Have you spoken with your co-religionists that work for me if I am a racist or hate Arabs - To a man they have stated no -Because they have character and value truth - and they apologize as a man does when having the wrong impression - Yes in this country they do encounter racism - But they do not receive that from me - Now if they have the balls to tell me to my face - I am the site supervisor that they believe I am a racist - then 3 months or longer as I wait - to apologize - That is all I need to hear - From you - It is just mere words of which to you words mean little - to others like myself - Words and actions are your bond and your personal reputation. So drive on with the meaningless accusations as they mean nothing to me - They make you feel good - Fine - But your excuses for Nuking Israel demonstrated to one and all where your beliefs are - And to no surprise to anyone on this Forum - EAO the supposed even-handed one walked by that post - So enjoy the company you keep - I find it disgusting myself - But to each their own. You are a FREAK - Simple as that. No more no less than a genocidal freak

The only thing disgusting is your blatant racism and support for terrorist organizations while simultaneously projecting those same things on to me. You're vile!
Israel openly exterminates Gazans.....

After six days of Israeli bombardment, aid agencies say that Gazans are facing a humanitarian crisis with air strikes causing severe problems in getting food, medicine and fuel supplies to the besiegedcivilian population.

How can you even have the audacity to call me disgusting, you're the most vile of human beings when you support Israel.

you didn't say anything of substance so there isn't any possible way you could have won anything...
good effort, actually not really.
Yes, when you have failed, tell your opponent he did. Excellent tactic cubby.

I have sufficiently proven, that Ahmadinejad has called for Israel's destruction. You can keep ignoring the elephant in the room if you want though.

It only proves my point about the difference between legitimate criticism of Israel, and the demonization and de-legitimization thereof.

What?
no, it's fulled with verified facts.
Being fairly aware of your severe dysfunction and obviously inadequate English reading and writing skills, I'll assume that was meant to say "filled". If it was filled with verifiable facts. I wouldn't have been able to tear it apart, like I did. No to mention, if those facts were so easily verifiable. Instead of hijacking my smilies, you would have actually posted some of those verifiable facts to disprove my rebuttal.

Since all you did was, well, nothing, except post some opinion from wikiality and some silly straw man about discrimination in the West. You've simply proven that your comment "verifiable facts", is well, wrong.

Good call. Thanx for coming out cubby.

Yes, who doesn't know this besides brainless redneck dopes??
Your article for one, it can't seem to be consistent and decide who is to blame.
No , they're "so-called moderate" , but in reality they aren't very moderate at all. It sounds like you support American imperialism and oppressing citizens of other foreign countires...
Not at all. If one was educated or intelligent enough to do even the most cursory research, they would already know where "I" stand on American interference and foreign policy. But thanx for showing us you haven't the education, nor intellect to grasp the point.

Yea, this is hilarious, why would we support and help those dirty arab monkeys? HAHAHAHHAHA!
Can you name me one Arab neighbour of Israel that has a gay rights legislation, written into the human rights legislation of their very charter of rights and freedoms?

I should have skimmed over your worthless replies for intelligent content before wasting my time replying to it.. I'll be sure to do this in the future...
And that would be a change how?
.
Sheer brilliance.
Given it's the closest thing to a fact that has ever graced your posts, since it was contained in an article you posted, you get the credit. But I'm being generous.

Well at least you didn't embarrass yourself trying to post some other easily torn apart rage of an article. That smilie hijack is likely the safest thing you could do, when faced with something you can't understand.

I use it because someone posts something stupid, or funny. In your case the former, oft.

How you used it, is a cop out. You obviously haven't the maturity or intellect to grasp what was said in that quotation, and the only thing you could do was either ignore it. Which I would catch. Or mock it, which is what you chose.

Sadly.

but when Iran does it, its violating the freedoms of its citizens.
Ummm, you really should try a remedial reading comprehension class, or course.

You just compared 1947 Israel to contemporary Iran. Comparing Israeli protection of State secrets, to the deliberate oppression of open and uncensored communication about anything?

Quite.

Cool, anymore horribly inaccurate statistics you want to post?
Your article had none. I provided some. You deem them inaccurate, please provide some of your own, or something that says something to the contrary...

That's how this works cubby.

Nevertheless, JNF land policy has been criticized as discrimination.[172] When the Israel Land Administration leased JNF land to Arabs, it took control of the land in question and compensated the JNF with an equivalent amount of land in areas not designated for development (generally in the Galilee and the Negev), thus ensuring that the total amount of land owned by the JNF remains the same.[173][175]
Ya, I said that. The only difference is, I didn't steal my data from a member contributed wikiality, fail to give it proper accreditation and post an opinion as if it were fact. Again showing your limited research and investigatory skills.

Even if wikiality was an acceptable source, you failed to say anything I didn't, other then add somebody else's opinion of the JNL and ILA.

Learn English, this gibberish is barely decipherable.
Nice cop out when you can't refute the comment. Or maybe the grammar and writing style was actually well beyond your education level. Thus rendering it incomprehensible to someone of such limited and stunted comprehension skills, such as yourself.

But being a stickler for key words, as I am. I noted you used the word "Barely". Regardless of the fact that my writing skills are beyond your capacity. That would denote that you were able to "decipher" what I wrote. And yet you still couldn't refute it. Now that is funny!

Blacks and Hispanics hold government jobs, serve in the military, hold elected positions etc,, here in the west... this clearly means we're a equitable paradise where no discrimination happens.... :)
That would be a great comparison, if that is what your article was alluding to. But it wasn't. Your article was alluding to "oppression", not discrimination. Two completely different things, especially when you add your disingenuous comparison to the West.

That's what happens when you operate in the realm of strawman arguments and half truths cubby. You eventually believe the lines you blur. Your posts are a shining example of that.

But hey, why would you be right this time? If there's one thing you do consistently, is posts errors.

It was translated by Sohrab Mahdavi, one of Iran’s most prominent translators, and Siamak Namazi. Feel free to look them up. It was even posted on Ahmadinejad's own webpage.

But hey, even if I had Ahmadinejad come on CC and tell you himself, you'd say he was a US impostor. When dealing with your level of insanity, there is no need to waste time providing evidence.
I've admitted to being in error before. As for having articles presented about the specifics I didn't find it important enough to learn Persian for myself. Being equated to being equal or worse than Hiltler for a few words that were a quote (or close paraphrase) to something said by a spiritual leader is not leaving the words in the same context as they were when spoken. Moral conduct is the usual topic when a religious leader is speaking, like when the Pope makes a public speech. If the original content was about the government needing to be 'gone' does not mean there should be no people left to be governed over. When a political leader says something like those words and it isn't a "quote" then it is a reference to the use of military force.

It took me so long to reply as I was in recovery because of your 'reference'. That was solely on the 'fact' that cherry-picking is not something that quoting somebody labeled a 'terrorist' as being your witness. A terrorist is also know to be a liar as far as I am aware. So your proof is based on believing a 'terrorist' is telling you the truth. And at the same time discrediting something a Canadian scholar says. Even for somebody who is prone ti using sarcastic irony to deliver a point is almost in awe of such a talent. That anybody would believe it to be plausible is the (not so) awe inspiring part.

Why let the side with the white-wash have the last stroke with the brush?
These events are still fresh enough in history that two sides can even be found. Many of the older events in history should also be able to be 'investigated' using techniques that only recently became available. That is the whole point of having archives in the first place.

Because you can't post anything to counter it no doubt.

Just more pseudo-intellectual babble,
There's nothing psuedo, nor babble, about it. If it were, you would have been able to mount an educated and skilled rebuttal, complete with some form of educated research.
claiming your superior writing skills
I didn't claim the superiority of mine, I pointed out the inferiority of yours cubby.

can't even be comprehended,
I know you can't, hence why you have failed to post anything of substance outside of your wikiality drivel.

claiming any source that doesn't favour your opinion to be invalid and not factual,
Then I go on to take it apart and show why I'm right. Something you have failed to do to any of my posts.

claiming you won some argument with imaginary sources,
My sources are books. Whose authors you quoted. Since you obviously haven't the ability to do the most menial of research, how would you know they were imaginary? You post nothing but other peoples cherry picked opinions, and when I take them apart with actual numbers, you ignore that part of the post, and have yet to come back with any numbers to refute mine.

You simply keep proving that my assessment of your skills is indeed correct and by extension, the superiority of my skills.

Thank you.

please don't waste my time.
You waste your own time with your Op/Ed education and pocket full of misinformation.

I've admitted to being in error before.
Not that I've seen. I'm still waiting for you to admit the Bible is based on the Talmud and not the other way around, as you asserted a long time ago.

As for having articles presented about the specifics I didn't find it important enough to learn Persian for myself.
Well, neither did I, but I did manage to find actual Iranians, in Tehran Iran that do speak Persian. One of which is an actual Gov't employee. Both of which explained the context of the speak, clearly and concisely.
Being equated to being equal or worse than Hiltler for a few words that were a quote (or close paraphrase) to something said by a spiritual leader is not leaving the words in the same context as they were when spoken.
I've never equated him to Hitler. But as I said to cubby, even if I were to be so gracious as to concede on that speech, due to the high controversy involved. I presented a video, of a public speech, in which he states clearly and repeatedly "Death to Israel"

That removes all doubt about any context.
Moral conduct is the usual topic when a religious leader is speaking, like when the Pope makes a public speech. One thing your posts have proven over the years Mhz, is that you have no need of documented history. Anecdotal will always do, so long as it's against Israel.

With the Bible having a 'new' part and with the 'old' part being equal to all scripture written prior it would be quite correct. I will even go one step further and promote that God had Daniel and his 3 friends write the words down so that any errors that having an oral book (Torah) would have created and scribe errors for the others.
That being said the prophecies in the OT need the NT to be able to be understood correctly, especially as far as Da:7 and 11 are concerned so even the Torah prophetic events are still being referenced in Revelation. Revelation is certainly the key to sorting through all the various OT prophecies so the NT the guide and the OT is the details along the way. If the OT was not complete then their position was not unique.

Well, neither did I, but I did manage to find actual Iranians, in Tehran Iran that do speak Persian. One of which is an actual Gov't employee. Both of which explained the context of the speak, clearly and concisely.

I also remember somebody from the Israeli Gov stating that Gaza was about to experience a holocaust. I doubt anybody remembers his name and some might not even recall the statement that made it into the press.

Nothing wrong with that method, how many of 100 of his peers would agree that his version is the correct one compared to the ones whop had a different viewpoint. What was the original context, elimination of the current government in Israel (at the time of the original speech) or death to all Joos (actually mocking their name BWTF eh, after all when you do something it has to smell like roses all the time). 'Pushed into the ocean' as one 'Jewish lady watching Gaza get pounded said. Should that be taken to be the sentiment of all Jews?

That removes all doubt about any context.
There's really nothing to argue about when he says...
"Death to Israel"
If UN 181 was repealed what would that do to 'Israel'? The People could stay but the name would have to go if that is what the 'winners' wanted.

Which reference?
The person you mentioned turned up on my search engine as this being the #1 article. I found it 'odd' that you would be quoting a 'known terrorist' as the 'headline below would promote'. For some reason the NY Times link doesn't go to the article I wanted to show you.

Terrorist Sohrab Mahdavi 2006 - Khosrow Hassanzadeh Official Webs... ... artist\'s intended viewer is Western. This very radical failure makes it unique in the non-Western art scene.Sohrab Mahdavi May 2006 TehranAvenue.com ...

What terrorist?
See above
He's a scholar of liberal arts. That hardly makes him an authority on Israel, Iran, Persian or reality for that matter. Not to mention his involvement in legitimizing a holocaust denial conference.
Why not accept the explanation the speaker gave?

Interpretation as call for referendum

Ahmadinejad has repeatedly called for a referendum in Palestine.[35][36][37][38] Most recently in an interview with Time magazine in 2006:[39]
TIME: You have been quoted as saying Israel should be wiped off the map. Was that merely rhetoric, or do you mean it? Ahmadinejad: [...] Our suggestion is that the 5 million Palestinian refugees come back to their homes, and then the entire people on those lands hold a referendum and choose their own system of government. This is a democratic and popular way.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Israel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

On that same link is a comment from Israel that is a threat of nuclear annihilation for saying a few words.

On May 8, 2006, Shimon Peres told Reuters that "the president of Iran should remember that Iran can also be wiped off the map," Army Radio reported.[44]

Given the crap that has littered your posts over the years. I could make up a litany of crap that denigrated Israel, create a web site, sneak you a link and you would use it ad nauseum to bash Israel. Never once vetting it for truth, let alone accuracy.
Given the events since 1947 why is your list almost empty?
Just the UN resolutions that the US vetoed should be enough to show anybody that she is prone to not acting in the same fashion that the rest of the world has said should be the standard. I not all that comfortable with our Gov avoiding the UN as a sign that Israel not being there is the right position to take, not when we do not also have the right to avoid the UN in support of some other member. Feel free to comment on Ben Freedman's speech on any thread you wish.

You mean like you and EAO and great Hamas is?
After 20 years of military occupation the people voted in a gov that had not become corrupt like the PLO. With both Israel and the US having control of the purse strings they would have authorized the theft that his widow was allowed to keep.
It is up to Canadians to respect a foreign government that has the vote of the majority. Even in a rigged vote (if the rumors from the US are true) the 'thieves' are accepted as being legit by the ones who were robbed.

When we elect a gov do we then have to wait for the voting to recognized by the international community? If we were under military occupation and freedom from that was desired a gov that promises to resist is who would get the vote. I doubt all the various paths that they could take in the ICC was spelled out in detail for them. Far as I know our agreement was with the details inside UN181. So far it appears it was really a sham to steal land and the only price to be paid to the Arabs is by death ot threat of death.

What would you know about archives?
In taking control by force the libraries are usually cleaned out and anything 'offensive' or in 'opposition' of the desired viewpoint is removed from the pages of time.

I also believe the US is showing the same attitude that it showed to Cuba when the gambling resorts were shut down, so if Cuba is still under the gun then Iran can look forward to another 20 years or so no matter what they do.

I would prefer to see Iran and Cuba be free to develop at their own pace and trade with whomever gives them the best deal as far as upgrading the quality of life for the least of their nation.

Say Haiti was called before the ICC and asked if she was bribed/threatened by any of the "Yes" side to vote the way she did. The same could be asked of all those Nations and the vote might even be reversed if it takes away quite a few. The US it self might have to say so if the 'reconstruction money was dangled in front to incite the population'. The invention of the 'cold war' was enough to allow untold weapons to be 'purchased' even in a time of 'relative peaceful times'.

When the Contra scandal was exposed it wasn't an isolated event of deception, the Balfour declarion was equal to an e-mail today, a leaked one.

With the Bible having a 'new' part...
That wasn't an invitation to open a dialogue on the topic of the monumental error you made.

I also remember somebody from the Israeli Gov stating that Gaza was about to experience a holocaust. I doubt anybody remembers his name and some might not even recall the statement that made it into the press.
I remember Santa Clause being real when I was five. So maybe you should at the very least bring a name to the table.

We aren't talking about all Jews, or all Iranians, just the one that will have his finger on the little red button, being a loon, and anti semite and wishing to see Israel wiped off the map.

If UN 181 was repealed what would that do to 'Israel'? The People could stay but the name would have to go if that is what the 'winners' wanted.
What does that have to do with him chanting death to Israel?

The person you mentioned turned up on my search engine as this being the #1 article. I found it 'odd' that you would be quoting a 'known terrorist' as the 'headline below would promote'. For some reason the NY Times link doesn't go to the article I wanted to show you.
For the love of God, do you have to make your stunted reading comprehension issues so monumentally known?

Sohrab MahdaviIs the author of a piece titled "Terrorist", he isn't listed as one.

I'm actually surprised that you could be that utterly stupid! Seriously!

Why not accept the explanation the speaker gave?
Because it isn't remotely realistic, nor do 5 million people have a claim of right to return.

Interpretation as call for referendum

Ahmadinejad has repeatedly called for a referendum in Palestine.[35][36][37][38] Most recently in an interview with Time magazine in 2006:[39]
Sure, let Gaza and the West Bank have a referendum.

On that same link is a comment from Israel that is a threat of nuclear annihilation for saying a few words. On May 8, 2006, Shimon Peres told Reuters that "the president of Iran should remember that Iran can also be wiped off the map," Army Radio reported.[44]
Because those few words were interpreted as a threat from a loon in a nation with an emerging nuclear capability.

Why is that so hard to grasp?

Given the events since 1947 why is your list almost empty?
What list?

Just the UN resolutions that the US vetoed should be enough to show anybody that she is prone to not acting in the same fashion that the rest of the world has said should be the standard. I not all that comfortable with our Gov avoiding the UN as a sign that Israel not being there is the right position to take, not when we do not also have the right to avoid the UN in support of some other member.
Back to the UN and the veto powers of some nations are we?

There's a thread already underway for that. Have fun in it.

Feel free to comment on Ben Freedman's speech on any thread you wish.
What speech?

Even in a rigged vote
Another glaring example of your moral bankruptcy and relativism.

When we elect a gov do we then have to wait for the voting to recognized by the international community?
If you're a list terror group, who won an election by throwing the opposition of roofs, ya.

If we were under military occupation and freedom from that was desired a gov that promises to resist is who would get the vote.
Sadly, Israel does not and did not occupy Gaza when Hamas was elected. So please do try and follow time lines.

I doubt all the various paths that they could take in the ICC was spelled out in detail for them.
And yet the ICC has yet to indict. Go figure.

In taking control by force the libraries are usually cleaned out and anything 'offensive' or in 'opposition' of the desired viewpoint is removed from the pages of time.
Absolutely correct, that is exactly what most Muslim regimes do when they seize power.

I would prefer to see Iran and Cuba be free to develop at their own pace and trade with whomever gives them the best deal as far as upgrading the quality of life for the least of their nation.
News flash, they can. Cuba can trade with anyone it so wishes, as can Iran. The only restriction is on American companies that can not trade with Cuba. Why is that so hard to grasp?
