Early Britains weren't so white after all.

With regards to the skin colour this shouldn't come as a surprise. Everyone knew that Humanity originated from Africa and that people didn't grow from out the ground after the ice retreated 10,000 years ago.

The genetic attribute of low melanin, or white skin colour, is an advantage in assimilating vitamin D from ultra violet solar radiation. The adaption and mutation is thought to form in as little as 100 generations (or 3000 years). This makes it a relatively recent characteristic correlated to habitation in low light northern regions.

How do you account for yellow pigmentation? Or the brown pigmentation of even northern tribes of North America?

Recent immigrants to northern climes? The arctic asiatic people probably settle there well after the last ice age. As far as i can figure there are 3 main types of malanin..eumelanin, pheomelanin and neuromelanin.. the first, eumelanin, is present in skin and hair and is especially abundant in dark skinned races and especially low in the blonde pale skin traditionally seen in northern European and Scandinavian populations. Genetic advantage would indicate over generations this would prevail in low UV environments in the north.

Considering people like Blackleaf are likely to believe Britain was white, always was white and was never any other color are out there, I thought it was an interesting thing to post up as a "told you so".

That being said, the color of skin before and during migrations of humans is fascinating in and of itself.

I wouldn't call the settlement of the northern climes "recent". As well, you have darker colorings of people in the southern hemisphere as well (look at Aztec/Myans; fairly dark colored and not likely due to 'tanning).

While I agree that the white coloring (of anything, humans and animals) is a northern trait, considering the other colors of both animals and humans and how white, IMO, is more a minority color, it's just made me now wonder why people believe white to be superior?

I once knew a Briddish woman who had dark skin & curly hair-always assumed there was a 'touch of the tar brush' in her since she came from somewhere the Roman legions had settled and a lot of them were from North Africa.

The blue eyes and WHITE SKIN are from breeding with neanderthals and denisovans. Blacks who stayed in africa and avoided the mid east didn't have that in their DNA make up.

So much for monotheistic religion. Unless gawd is part apeman they have been done in by DNA.

You can explain changes in skin colour or eye colour as adaptation, but that doesn't mean separate groups of people experience the same adaptions in similar climates.

Not necessarily recent immigrants since it has been suggested that the last full glaciation was more recent than usually mentioned. It is possible that those peoples could have stayed in place and survived a slow transition into ice age. There is another theory however that insists a south polar orientation of this planet fixed on the sun and a northern hemisphere fixed on deep dark space. see the book Secret
History of Twin Planet Earth.......Errol Hawkins.................. complete with all kinds of earth orbital configurations. But I think your suggestion is the most likely although why anyone would migrate into a vegatation dead zone is beyond me. The author has near complete contempt for Academia which I share to great degree.

I can't say that I'm surprised at any of this.White skin could easily be a fairly recent mutation and all of us whiteys are quite likely descended from the same mother (or father!).

When did Britain become white? One wave of invaders that came from the Continent in roughly that time frame (4000 years ago) are the so-called "Beaker People". It looks like they swept in and changed everything there very quickly. Were they Whiteys dispersing from somewhere in Europe?

There is an interesting bit of Briton folklore that comes to mind.It is not particularly English but it comes from Scotland and the West Country where snippets of the ancient culture survives. They have beings called "Brownies" in their folk traditions who are shorter, have brown skin and brown curly hair. In some traditions, they live on houses as domestics. In others, they live near springs (as Neolithic people would). Could these stories be describing the Aboriginal inhabitants of Britain ... by an oral tradition 4000-5000 years old?
It sort of adds up.
