Dear Mr. Gray
Then this would also apply to Harper, would it not?

Still Confused

When an independent economist makes an affirmative statement on what portion of the federal deficit is defined by extraneous economic influence, you will then be able to make that comparison.

Until then - stick to the topic of the Ontario budget.

Hope that clears up the confusion.

XOXO

Northern Ontario,
No doubt more than a few former employees at Sturgeon Falls paper mill wish it had worked for them....

sturgeon falls | mill history :: overview

The "boom" started petering out in Kap in 2000 when I retired after selling off all my shares in '97 '98 & '99
(not because of my retirement) ;-).
It had gone up to a 4 paper machine operation in the '90s ..Now it's down to 2 machines.....and looking pretty bleak....
The only thing that is helping is the vast lumber limits and the mill is right in the center and we never went to complete recycled....only part.
I could tell you stories about that recycling shyte....

Trying to slip away with a hug and a kiss just does not cut it.

Does anyone know when Ontario had balanced budgets say from 2000- till now?? And what the deficits / surplus was?

I believe it was right about the time services and highways were downloaded onto the municipalities in the same sort of artful dodge Martin pulled

It's a good thing McGuinty hired the guy to make an independent assessment.

I wonder if the PCs would do the same.

I was watching CBC's coverage of the event and they had Horwath (NDP) and the PC finance critic to say their piece. Horwath actually went into the budget details while the PC guy basically used it as an attempt to just slander McGuinty.

Kinda sounds like the PC PRbots in here. You guys have an existential problem to deal with.

Do Ontario a favour.

Do your jobs and start rationally critiquing the budget instead of reciting Sun headlines.

Drummond said one-third of the deficit was due to the recession.

It is much better if you stop thinking in black and white.

Oh the hypocrisy.

You are without a doubt, the best punchline at CC Fuzzy.

Dear gawd!!! Don't the Federal Cons get railed for that kind of track record?

Now Liberals cannot criticize liberals now can they. That would be a Sin against the Natural Governing Party and sanctions worse than the US has for Iran would be required.
They would be picked up late in the evening and taken to a Liberal Training & Reorientation Camp.
Where the mantra is - We are not always Right, but we are never wrong, just slightly in error.

The Feral Cons don't get railed over worldwide recession either - just in how they look after investors first. Libs look after management and Dips look out for unions. Who looks out for me ... but ME?

Rex Murphy: The Drummond report and Ontario’s sham election

With the exception of the writings of the prophets Jeremiah and Isaiah at their bleakest, flavoured with a touch of H.P. Lovecraft on the days when that lightless mind was wrestling with a migraine, the recent meditations of Don Drummond on Ontario’s fiscal situation set the standard for prose that vibrates with gloom and foreboding.

The prophet Drummond is aware of this. He tried to prepare Ontario for the grim messages he was sending. At the press conference announcing his 529-page diagnosis of Ontario’s fiscal morbidity, he produced a remarkable understatement about his report and the 320 recommendations of cuts, freezes and cancellations that so enliven its bristling pages. Said Mr. Drummond (perhaps hiding a bitter smile): “This will strike many as a profoundly gloomy message.” Those listening to Mr. Drummond recalled P.G. Wodehouse: “I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.”

The Drummond report is scathing, frightening, a grim portrait, an indictment of Ontario’s fiscal management during the last eight years of McGuinty government. It is everything columnists in this paper have said and more. The Drummond analysis offers what we may call a spectrograph of Ontario’s perilous financial situation. It is also a devastatingly chilly portrait of imminent decline, should the government of this once dynamic, productive and industrious province fail to follow the prescription —320 deep, demanding and painful recommendations that Mr. Drummond so vigorously recommends.
