Yet another candidate for Canada's Worst Driver.

"Police in western Michigan are trying to identify a driver who backed into a woman pushing a stroller with her child inside and dragged the stroller a short distance before fleeing."

yeah, it wouldn't surprise me if most of Canada's worst drivers aren't even Canadian. lol

Generally speaking when parking in a parking lot you should try to park such that when you leave you can pull ahead.

yes you should,

This dork SAW HER... she was already there when he was getting into his car.

Regardless of how careless people are in parking lots, it's still up to the driver to make sure it's safe to back up. I can think of 3 heavy duty charges to hit the moron with off the top of my head.
Agreed. However a parking lot is one of the most dangerous places to walk or drive. At my shopping mall people zoom out of the mall and head right for their cars as if others can stop on a dime. We all know you can't. They are obviously drivers so they know this too.

You have to have eyes in the back of your head. We were leaving the grocery store the other day. There was a huge truck to our left and a car parked to our right. She starts to back up, with a truck there. A freaking truck. My guy was laying on the horn and she still kept coming for a split second. Took her a while to react.

Also here in town we have oldsters drive through Timmies windows occasionally. People are sitting drinking their coffee and people drive through the window. I won't even walk in front of a car now where the driver has entered the car and is about to back out in case they go the wrong way.

Whenever I go to the Mall, I try to park somewhere where I can go forward or, if possible back up into a stall (if its safe to do so). While there are drivers who are totally oblivious to what is around them, stop and watch the pedestrians - they are even worse. You can be cleared to back out of a stall, and then out of no where, someone decides to "run" around your vehicle as you are slowly trying to back up. Rather than wait the 5 seconds for the activity to be completed, they'd rather risk getting hit than waiting. Unbelievable.

When I am walking and see a vehicle trying to back up, I WAIT because I know, AS A DRIVER how hard and how dangerous it can be to do so safely. I have even assisted them in completing the back up, especially if there are ignorant people who simply walk behind them as they're backing up. I make the people wait so the vehicle can get on its way. No one has ever said anything to me about making them stop so the vehicle can be on its way. I think its a matter of common sense.

JMHO

As a pedestrian, I am also aware as a driver, the dangers that drivers (even good ones) face when someone steps out in front of a vehicle and didn't even look to see if it was safe to do so.

Very sensible post. When driving or walking in a parking lot your mind has to be just as if not more focused than when travelling on the road.
