I am not disagreeing with you but was it illegal and the answer is no.

No it's not illegal and I never said it was illegal, but considering all the other options she had at her disposal, that was the worst option out of all of them for her to choose, which shows her lack of ability to do her job.

Even people against the coalition in these forums have said they would have prefered an election over prorogue.

And although I am for the coalition, I would choose an election 2nd over a prorogue..... delaying our government from doing it's job in these current situations is probably the worst thing that could have been done.

You cannot be right or wrong when you try your best to do what you think is correct.. People will always fault you of the side you did not agree with..

I tried my best on my grade 12 math exam..... and I still failed it.... what does that tell you?

I agreed strongly with one option, agreed slightly with another option, and outright opposed the third option for this situation, as did many other Canadians. Delaying our government was the worst thing to do.

I don't think it was an easy way out as the meeting was over 2 hours long and most of those are less then 1/2 hr. Be realistic here and realize the pressure she was under having just returned from a long trip.

A long trip is not an excuse, plain and simple.... if she can not keep up with her job, then she shouldn't be doing it. That just reminds me of the mountain of excuses I hear from my landlord.

I am realistic.

Nobody knows what happened in those two hours.... .for all you and I know, they just sat around and played Guitar Hero. The time it took means nothing, the end result is what truly matters.

If she actually took this situation seriously and wanted to think this out in detail, she should have sat down with not just Harper, but also with the other members of the Coalition and hear what they have to offer..... then make a decision.

Instead, she spent two hours with Harper and got some letter sent to her by Dion..... and god know what that letter was about..... .and since he's no longer in the picture, it shouldn't matter, she should have heard both sides of the situation equally to make a sound decision.

She didn't do that either, therefore she's still incompetent.

Does she have to do that? Not normally no, but considering the current situation, it would have been wise for her to do so.

Why because she did not do things your way. Personally I see it as Harper hanging himself in the long run and being a Centre right person I will be Glad when he is gone.. He is way to controlling and has made way to many mistakes, this perhaps his biggest.. When the Liberals were in their worst position HE COULD NOT EVEN CALL AN ELECTION the FOOL...

Not just because she didn't do things my way, but she didn't do things the way other previous GG's would have done things, which was already clearly explained.

I agree that Harper is just about canned and I will be glad when that cyborg goes the way of Dion (Or the Dodo) But he's been given way too many chances. Besides this Prorogue he won, the last straw was when he directly lied to the nation about what was going on...... He either was lying, or he clearly has no clue on how our democracy works..... either way, certainly not a sign of a sound leader, and clearly nobody worth confidence.

Who's to say a Liberal, NDP or any other Prime Minister won't ?

Nobody did, which is why I said any PM in the future can pull this stunt (Thanks to the GG's poor decision making) But Harper is the current PM unfortunatly, therefore the concern lies apon him right now...... he did it once, who is to say he won't try it again before his ass is canned?

The problem was created by Voters.. Had we had a Majority Government we would not have had this issue.. Don't blame others for these issues..

This is not the fault of voters, since we did exactly what we were supposed to.

What would you suggest? Listen to the main leading parties (Liberal/Conservatives) in their "You're just throwing away your vote if you vote anybody else besides us" mentality?

We are supposed to vote for who we think would best represent us..... I did this, and everybody else who voted did this. Are we supposed to ignore what we all believe in, suck up to the status quo and vote for a party we don't believe in?

What kind of democracy is that?

So then what? What do you propose? Should we all have voted to give a majority to Harper..... someone who didn't even have a plan for after the election and didn't even bother to look into what could be done to save our economy and just wanted to cripple the other parties?

Or should we all have voted for Dion and his Green shift plan?

If you want a 2-party government, there is always the US to head to for that.

Harper created this mess, nobody else..... the Gov General enabled him to keep his mess going..... this is certainly not the voter's fault.

The moment this country adopts Direct Democracy will be the moment I will see it possible to blame voters for what happens in our government.

The system works as well as any other and it peeves me off to hear Harper or others say the Senate doesn't work and then appoints 18 people.. Hypocrite is the proper term I believe..

Agreed.

Do any of them in reality answers to the people of Canada ?

Not in this current system it would seem.

The right to form a coalition has not been shot down. Did I miss something or did Parliament reopen and the coalition was taken apart ? On Jan 26th when the House sit again the coalition can decide to stay as one ( if solidarity is still solid ) or separate back into individual parties.

I never said anything about the coalition being not an issue anymore.... but the GG's actions have allowed our current form of government to fall further down the hole of crap because she prorogued the government so that a prime minister could avoid a non-confidence vote...... which then opens up an even bigger can of crap.

If the other parties form a coalition after Harper's plans are rejected (if they are rejected) then who is to say Harper won't try and ask for another prorogue until they give up the idea?

None of us know what's going on in the head of the GG.... none of us know her reasons for proroguing in the first place. Does she have the best interests of Canada at play, or Harper and the Conservatives?

The real shame in all this is that Canadians must wait for Economic help while Harper has held Parliament hostage at his own doing for almost 3 months.. Canadians should surely remember this at the polls as there are facts to remember here

The Coalition was LEGAL
Parliament was stopped by Harper

With the help of the GG.

Oh I'll certainly remember everything Harper has done thus far..... and I sure won't forget what the GG has done either.

Yes, I am one spiteful arsehole...... but I would rather call it tough love with a baseball bat.

No shyte, Sherlock. However, most voters voted for Con MPs, obviously. They didn't vote for Iggy & his MPs, Jack Lameton & his MPs, etc.
I see it as a matter of perception.

Perception indeed.... I sure as hell never once voted for the Cons.... and I sure never voted for the Liberals..... but if the Liberals and NDP wish to form together to get work done for once in this decade, then I'm all for it..... Both Iggy and Layton seem to have their heads on their shoulders a hell of a lot more then Dion or Harper.

And to correct you, Most voters didn't vote for the Cons..... the greater majority didn't vote for them... but then theres that perception thing again.

The NDP scare the hell out of a lot of people (remember Bob Rae's Ontario and Glen Clark's BC gov'ts?),

They don't scare me.

Martin's Gliberals were deceptive and larcenistic.

So.... no different then the Conservatives?

The Glibs would turn themselves inside out to get Cons out and vice versa. Sure seems like a malicious and vengeful attempt to me. And I didn't see any vote of non-confidence.

I wonder why?

When did it take place?

Whenever our dictator allows it to take place, I'll let you know.

Has this gov't really failed in what it was supposed to do?

Yes..... has it started working yet?

No. It has failed.

Of course it hasn't done everything it said it would .... NO gov't has done that. Has this gov't been more damaging to Canadians than not? That remains to be seen.

Remains? I'm seeing it everyday and it's getting worse.

Either way, I would imagine the Queen told the GG what her decision should be so people should accept it as simply what is.

Once again, nobody has any clue her reasons or justification for her decision except Harper it would seem.

And if the Queen was to make the decision and that was that..... then wtf is the point of having a Gov. General in the first place?

Wrong...

Cons........ 37.63%
Libs......... 26.24%
NDP......... 18.20%
Bloc......... 9.97%
Rest........ 7.96%

CBC.ca News - Canada Votes

Now the last time I looked 37.63% was not "most voters voted for Con MPs, obviously. "

Depends on your interpretation of the numbers. Unless math has changed significantly since I went to school the cons got over 20% more votes than the Libs and double the NDP. So clearly more people voted for the cons than any other party. Then there are the 40% or so that are so happy with Harper that they didn't even bother to vote.
Now if the Libs and the NDP were to desolve them selves and form one new party I would say they were in the majority. This is rather unlikely to happen and a coalition of the kind they were proposing is unlikely to have any better success at governing than Harper has for four years. Perhaps we should just fire all of them since all seem more interested in power than in looking after taxpayers interests.

I can't wait until the coalition begins governing this fine country of ours. The economy will be rebound over night, we'll have universal daycare courtesy of Jack, crime will cease in Toronto due to NDP magic, beer will be free, everything will be just peachy.
Ah the Dippers rose colored glasses will cure all. And all this money is coming from?

Money will come from DurkaDurka and taxslave pockets.. :)

Funny how the scare tactics of all this added taxation and money requirements is always pushed around yet I have not seen my Income tax go down since the Con's have taken over ????

But other bills have gone up with no relief in sight..

As to the 2% GST reduction, well I cannot afford an HDTV or new Car, gas did not go down when GST went down and neither did Newspapers, drinks and other things.. So I have not saved more then a hundred bucks a year.. Yippee..

That's a bit of a stretch....

But to the first part, yes more people voted for the Cons then any other party, but if all of the other parties are willing to work together and merge into a coalition as they are democratically allowed to do, then it doesn't matter how many votes the Cons got, because now the situation has changed so that now they're the minority. And quite honestly, if the roles were reversed and the Conservatives wished to form a coalition with other parties, I'd be all for it too..... because more people are being represented in a coalition, therefore a more accurate government.

And to the second part of the above: in regards to those who didn't vote and your claims that they're happy with Harper and the Conservatives..... that's not only an empty statement, but it's also false, since many who have been interviewed or asked why they didn't vote claimed they didn't like any of the parties available for voting...... so those who didn't vote are null and void as they didn't vote for any party, period.

Nobody knew who would win the election, so your assumption is flawed.

Now if the Libs and the NDP were to desolve them selves and form one new party I would say they were in the majority.

But then that would create the situation everybody opposed to the Coalition to come true.... it then would be a party nobody actually voted for.

This is rather unlikely to happen and a coalition of the kind they were proposing is unlikely to have any better success at governing than Harper has for four years. Perhaps we should just fire all of them since all seem more interested in power than in looking after taxpayers interests.

Well the Conservatives are the ones claiming they're trying to steal power (all the while trying to keep their own power) while the other parties were fed up with the Cons not doing anything for the country except attempting to weaken and pit the other parties against one another in order to gain a majority..... which was why the last election was called in the first place.

Income tax doesn't go down. Deductions and benefits get rearranged, however. I know a lot of seniors who are happy with what the Cons did for them so far. And I am happy that the Cons have managed to reverse the direction of the debt clock which is something I've never seen Glibs or ND Pussies do. (That means gov't is spending a lot less money on covering debt interest and more on spending on the country.)
Gas prices (et al) are contrilled by individual stations and oil companies (et al), not gov'ts.

It's going to be a year of the same shyte regardless of who runs the show. 2009 is going to hurt for a lot of people, the only real thing I would like to see the government change is EI benefits length and the approval time shortened.

Never said they're saints.... but they're sure as hell a lot better then that ass clown prime minister we have now and have been the only ones to actually attempt to present some kind of a plan to solve most of the more concerning problems.

And maybe why you feel no-one ever has got the job done is because you're used to seeing the last number of years with the Conservatives in power who have done absolutely nothing while in power.

Some people are easily sucked into routine for security purposes.

Seems to me that the majority wins. Harper got in.

And now the tables are turning and the majority is the coalition..... unless Harper sucks up his pride and does what they demand he does.

Exactly. As I said before, politicians aren't saints nor demons. But that doesn't seem to occur to you.

You clearly have no clue what occurs to me since I never claimed or referenced any of them as saints or demons.

Because there was no vote of non-confidence.

Because Harper delayed our government just before the non-confidence like the little chicken-sh*t power monger he is.

We can loop this all you like, it changes nothing.

Apparently you missed my sarcasm.

I know sarcasm when I read/see it.... that doesn't mean I still won't take the comments down a notch or two.

Sorry to burst your little balloon of hatred, but it has done some good.

Like what? Normally when someone makes a statement like that, they provide examples to back it up.

So? I've been seeing it for decades.

As have I.

I would imagine it would be to represent the Queen. Duh. That's like to express the Queen's opinion for her so the Queen doesn't like have to do it herself. Do you like get it?

Yeah I get it fully.... the GG represents the queen, which means they're supposed to be trained and educated in the processes of this democracy so that they can make the appropreate decisions that would be similar to what the Queen would decide..... so that the Queen doesn't have to run all over the Commonwealth to make everybody aware of what she wants.

That doesn't mean the system is flawless, nor does it mean GG's are always in constant contact with the Queen.

And if her decision of Proroguing our government was what the Queen would have wanted..... how come former GG's claimed that she shouldn't have done this and explained why very clearly as I shown above?

Funny how everybody is avoiding that.

Harper directly stated this in his little pow wow with the nation, as well as in Parliament, calling it.....

and I quote:

Why would anybody claim that?
