The mayan's had a good calender due to agriculture ..A great feat...But they couldn't calculate the 365.333333333... So eventually ,whether they realized it or not ..The calendar slowly goes out of sync / out of date...

Sorry if I spoiled the fun..Although , I will say Far more bizzare things can and have happened .. Keep lookin to the sky ...1 day the prophecies may be proven true ... Self fulfilling..(enter twilight music here)

Let's hope we get some advance warning before it's almost over..
What would you do with advanced warning? When it's over - it's over. It's not like you need to worry about your will or anything. Don't need to worry about revenge. Sounds like all such things would be taken care of in a one fell sweep.:p I know - you want to get a time capsule ready and hope that you can hop into it and not get blown to bits with the rest of us.:p

What's 365.333333...?
Is that like a year? Our year over here in BC is 365.2429 days. Based on a 23 hour and 56 second day.

2012... Oh man... That's such a retarded thing... THE WORLD WON'T END THEN! It's what the Mayan's predicted... Yet they didn't predict the Spanards killing them...

I don't think the Mayans predicted the end, their calender just ends. It will simply be the beginning of a new cycle. Besides, the Gregorian calendar has been tampered with so much that the real December 21, 2012 could be centuries away.

News just in!

End of World (Rioters, Oct. 21, 2009)
"Those worrying about December 21, 2012 can rest easy. A scholar of Mayan mysticism has recalculated the Mayan date for the end of the world. The revised date, based on his study, is October 22, 2009."

The rest of the article simply gives mathematical formulae and numerical calculations. I did not quote these, because I felt they would not be of interest to the average reader. However, for those interested, google Mein Gott in Himmel

As Juan has mentioned, Nostradamus has predicted several dates as being the end of the world. Others have also predicted a variety of dates. When one date passes without event, they move on to the next one. Kind of funny, actually. Anyway, no one knows the true date of the end of the world, if it will even happen...

Nostradamus really hasn't predicted anything. Once an event passes they go back and check his predictions and say...

"AAAA HA! He predicted it!"

Once 2012 passes they will find another date. 1984 came and went as did 2000. NADA.

It'll happen alright, in some sense. The sun's not going to last forever, though it's got another few billion years yet, and odds are we'll be gone long before that. Species don't generally last more than a few tens of millions of years.

The sun has another 7.5 billion years to go. People have predicted life on Earth to last about 500 million to a billion more. That is, unless we kill ourselves and everything else off earlier.

We are looking at things from a material view while I believe many were saying
symbolically it was the end of the world as we know it. That does not mean a
disaster and end. It means perhaps the beginning of something new or different.
I believe history just unfolds and it is what it is sometimes it matches up to a
prediction and sometimes not.
