What they are saying is that gvt mandated, forced charitable giving will result in those same folks not investing in growth (or dividend yielding companies).
Do ya think that it might have an effect on how much expansion (read; new jobs) will be impacted or even the decision to mechanise?
Sure, betcha they will also mention that the cost of living has increased and wiped-out the gains they made via the min wage
I suppose that you'll volunteer to sit in judgement as to exactly how everyone is allowed to spend their money, eh?
I am absolutely shocked that a pro Unfettered Capitalist publication would try to say that a higher minimum wage doesn't help when that money could have gone to shareholders or owners.
Maybe the writer should ask those making $15.00 an hour if their lives have improved.
But then again, maybe we should support the wealthy so they can spend $110 million on a painting........

Wait for the trickle up effect. All those people that were making $12-18 are going to expect a similar raise. THen the next group up and so on till it reaches the pay scale of tradespeople and government employees. Then there will be either massive layoffs or massive inflation. Probably both until the market sorts itself out again.

Your so-called "trickle up" effect has not been noted in areas where low wage workers have received a wage increase; at least not to the effect you are predicting. I'm guessing that fear of the "trickle up" effect is just another excuse for keeping poor people poor.
Those are the upsides, would you be happy with the downsides, such as being dead at the age you are now? Who would there be to look after you when you become useless (no longer able to hunt and fish) ? How do you know there were no beggars? Every race of people has members who are lazy &/or dishonest.
No welfare, no free education no electricity for your computer and no gas to get to town to pick up your welfare cheque.
The place socialism fails is when they have to do business with capitalists as they tend to gobble up everything they don't already 'own' and if they own it 15% of the populations matters, the rest do not. If the leaders resist that aspect they will be replaced by ones that will tow the line.
Venezuela didn't fail because the system didn't work, it failed because the US put enough pressure on it that is was destined to fail. The alternative doesn't fix the problems, they are just no longer reported on.
Canada should be extending them a lot of credit and use those coupons for shopping in Canada for goods related to food and it's production using local resources and housing that lasts a long time and meets the standards we have when they are enforced and slumlords are the bad guys.
Do a task on time and under budget and other nations in the are might look to us rather than China or Russia as they are already at max capacity for new contracts of a large scale. They could do the bankrolling should that be needed and it might be if we have to tool up with some new products that are meant for the tropics and mountainous locations where roads do not exist so stand alone services would be the power supply in most cases. That seems to mean solar and wind devices might be needed. Off the shelf would save time.
Socialism in Iceland would work as they are not under threat of invasion for their treasures, . . . . . yet.

And you're an Asshole, so how does that make you any better? Who delivers your welfare cheque to you every month?
And while you are demonstrating to the whole wide world what an Asshole you are you might want to check what work these "gubmint employees" are doing in the meantime. Some of them are providing care to those who are unable to help themselves, some are engaged in road construction so you can get to the Jar shop to pick up your daily bottle of Berry Jack.
