$75 each for hubby and me.
One of my cousins in the States is paying over $400 per month and his is the cheapest of my relatives there.

What is his tax rate compared to you ?

I have relatives in various states.....Texas, California, S.Carolina, Colorado, New York..........and they all pay at least the amount Anne quoted.......and some pay more.

You pay nothing , yet still pay more , go figure .

The salaries for Physicians and nurses are better in the US. A few places are progressive and do incredible research. As in other thins.....it is a situation of extremes. You get the care that you can afford.

The quality of care is NOT determined by the nation one is from. If one is so biased......one had better not get sick.

I think the poverty stricken are better covered here and I think the "yardstick" should be determined by the worst case scenario.

Canada has slightly better outcomes at roughly half the cost.

So those fancy ads I see on tv for cancer care in the states are open to just anyone off the street at no charge?

My neighbour and my wife's cousin are both nurses and they say the Canadian system is more equitable.

Yet prisoners , first responders , politicians , professional atheletes , WCB cases and illegal immigrants all get specialized service before the general population .

Explain this. why is the average cost of healthcare nearly double in the US and if that money dosen't come from rate payers, where does it come from?

I don't totally agree with that either, I don't see why someone else should be paying for me (with some means) . I always figured $150 a month for protection of two people's dearest asset was a pretty good deal.

I never said the system was perfect and far from the best. I just think its better than in the US. Even most Americans when polled want a fundamental change to healthcare.

We all get the minimum unless insured but guess how much it costs each of us a year in taxes?

Why don’t US citizens come to Canada for healthcare? Thousands of Canadians go to the US for healthcare.

Yeah, rich Canadians! Show up in the U.S. penniless and see what treatment you get!

Nope. Went to my family doctor, he thought I dislocated it and sent me to emerg. They took an x-ray and confirmed it wasnt that and suspected a tear. They sent me to the surgeon working in the fracture clinic who said it was a tear and sent me for an MRI.

I'd give it six months, they are working on it as we speak with some progress already!

Really , you must have had a work related accident or required emergency surgery.we pay a combined tax rate of over 50% of our income . Health care is the single largest item on each provinces budget . Americans even after paying health premiums have more after tax dollars . Most American workers have coverage through their employers and pay no premiums . For a start .
Our system has great emergency and trauma care , no doubt . Our doctors and nurses are first rate , no doubt . Our cancer care is great and we do much research into same . However due to wait times and other factors many don’t get diagnosed soon enough to take advantage of same treatment and find themselves in excellent palliative care .
