It's not there money so in the end they shouldn't have it. However, rather than the all or none strategy they are working with they should cut a deal.

I have this nasty habit of stepping on my own ___ when it comes to things like that - you know: ask too many questions. It wouldn't happen to me - but I'd be more than willing to accept their gratitude (cash preferred please) for pointing out the error if it did.

Not sure how it is in Australia, but I believe in Canada or the US you can get charged if you use money that is mistakenly placed in your account. There is no way that the couple would not know that $11 million dollars just magically appeared in their bank account(even if it was over a period of time). I think they will probably end up being charged.

And I would not keep the money.

I wouldn't keep the money, and I would also expect that, if the bank accidentally took 11 million away from me, they'd not expect me to let them keep it.

Some people have absolutely no ethics.

well he's a real estate mogul, so 11 million seems reasonable to overlook.

And when the bank screws up, thats a big deal when those cheques to run your business have been cashed. If they had informed him as they should have, he wouldn't have kept going like this, and he wouldn't have to destroy his business to pay them back for their error.

In reality, he should be forced to give back the 11 million, and the bank should be forced to pay damages, probably in the $20-$30 million dollar range for destroying his business and his future profitability.

I would transfer the money into other accounts and not spend it. There is not a hope in hell that the bank isn't going to catch their mistake. Once they do, you simply say that the money is no longer there. I'm sure the bank would be willing to "make a deal" to get most of the money back. The guy probably could have walked away with a tidy sum and no legal headaches if he played it smart.

$11 mill is kind of hard to "overlook" real estate mogul or not.;-)

Honour our Fallen
We had over 83 thousand put in our bank by mistake 2 years ago.....

I wasn't happy with the Canada trust changes when TD took over.....

So one day i go to check to see my balance at the machine....i wear reading glasses...did not have them and when i saw the balance i went beserko....there was no balance just some long serial number....Flippin heck...now they don't give you balances even...i get in the car freaking out about the morons not giving you balances and say to Sandy that our balance is a code number now.....she looks and goes ...erm no ..it's $83,456.78....i go WHAT!!!!!..ok the last bit is wrong after the 83 ....

so i go back in and requset an account activity from machine and voila....there was the 83 grand and some....7 days ago placed into account.....wow...so like the larceny kicks in....i figure it's a computer glitch and the bank doesn't contact me for they realize this and don't want to upset the apple cart:roll:

i go insane and see if i can withdraw it and the machine says i can withdraw up to 1 thousand dollars......heavens to murgatroid!!!

i let it sit 2 days...wander into a branch and request a hundred dollars....they give it to me....which was mine..i knew that much and some more was mine....i walk out...no alarm bells nothing.....

i'm like over the moon but realize it is not mine....i go back in and ask for manager ...get some teller manager and ask her whats the deal.....

turns out....the last visit i wanted to deposit this cheque but it was post dated i did not see that......talked to the teller cause i know him left.....he never hit turn off that account thingy....next person, a lawyer deposits 83 large and it goes into mine......

no big whoop
no reward

just me wishin it was 1980....i would have taken the whole lot....went to carribean and lived like a king for 20 years by passing the statue of limitations........

Hey Doc; check out the statute of limitations on an indictable offense in Canada..........They ding guys for old sex offenses, bank robberies, every day. I think if it's a misdemeanor one might be ok, but what do I know??

Anyways, ifn the money weren't mine, I'd point it out pronto. OR:laughing6::laughing6::laughing6: transfer the money into another bank in high interest accounts for as long as they continued to not notice. When they called me or sent the cops around it would be like........."Eh????, what???? Yah I got the money. You want it back.??? Here's a cheque." Make sure the cheque's good and give it back. They MIGHT let ya keep the interest.....................YA THINK???!!!:roll:

The fat bastard looks like he could afford (value judgment :lol:) to give it back, and since it ain't his, he should. Greedy prick.

There is no statute of limitations in Canada. There is a limit set to things like debt which varies from province to province but not on indictment.
